After all the negativity I thought it would be nice to mention a positive experience from a Mortgage provider
I have just completed the purchase of my first ever property (YEY!) through Woolwich/Barclays and I can say the customer service was exceptional
My credit record is quite frankly, terrible, but over the last few years I have managed to save for a deposit by getting my work to save any commissions I was earning. I have numerous defaults registered on my credit file from around 6 years ago however I explained this to Woolwich who took it all into consideration, the Mortgage Advisor was extremely helpful and honest.
The property is £127,500 and I had saved 10% for a deposit so after getting my bid excepted we started the full application process. Documents were sent out immmediatly by Woolwich and the advisor rang me every few days to check we had everything and confirmed receipt of all documents, even going out of his way to fax over details. The property we bought is a non standard construction (levitt Cartwright) so we were worried about the Survey and if it was a mortgagable property but again the advisor worked hard to do some background checks and even spoke with the surveys directly to gain quick responses. The final offer letter came to us and our solicitors within two weeks of starting the process....very speedy to our delight!
At the weekend we finally got the keys and moved in, we could not be happier!!!
So if you are looking at Woolwich/Barclays Mortgages, I would highly recommend them...
Also for all those that have had defaults in the past, Woolwich were excellent with me and very upfront so will very much recommend them to anyone's who credit record is not very good!
Well done Barlcays/Woolwich!

Sure the MA will be delighted to have his/her name put on this one publicly.
Technically this number of defaults would put you outside their criteria and I suspect the MA did not declare these.
In the 3-6 year category Woolwich do not necessarily always check linked/previous addresses.
I think you got lucky rather than Woolwich doing a bang up job, although is nice to hear a good news story.

Pleased for you.
Well done Mumbai.
For other applicants do read too much into our original posters' recommendation of Woolwich if you have defaults on your record.
