What's the real value in the bike though, I know a 2nd hand serviced Giant TCR/OCR will fetch £180-200.

What's this worth once you have rode it away from the store?

Does its second hand value really matter?

If someone is in the market for half decent roadbike for £250 this is a good buy especially if you can get the store to discount by another 10% as some have done on HUKD.

I think deal ends today though

Yes, I think it does matter.

If a £250 bike is only worth £100 once its used, its not a good buy, it just means the original RRP/ slashed was over inflated.

However, if you purchased the typical bike above, it would fetch £200 all day long...therefore potential free use.

After all, this is a MoneySaving Website.

You'd maybe be able to flog it to someone who doesn't know anything about bikes for 150 if you're really lucky. It's not that good a bike tbh, carerra doesn't have much of a name among cyclists.

You'd be much better off buying a second hand giant/trek/spec for that price. Or if you really had to have new, one of these http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-red-road-bike-id_8274036.html at least they've got a good reputation.

agree that the triban is a better bike but £50 more (at the moment).

Not sure about the carrera having a bad name, halfords yes, but carrera no,not as far as i know

Many people dont like buying second hand, I stand by the fact that if £250 was you absolute max (as said poss £225 in store) then this is a good buy

Because its a carrera bike snobs wouldnt want it second hand, thats why the second hand price is reduced, although I still dont get why anyone buys anything thinking how much would i get if i sold it....is nothing for keeps these days

    Yes & No,

Halfords are pushing this on the success of the cycling, probably first time cyclists will walk in and buy off the shelf. Give it a few local rides, park it in the shed and be done with it. A few months later, sell the bike for what they can on eBay.

i agree with the decathlon triban3 being a far superior bike for only £50 more.

was £599 :rotfl: never in a millon years

£250 is probably all its worth, not a bargain, guess its ok for someone who just wants a road bike for a few infrequent short rides, but for anyone considering getting into the sport, its a waste of money.
  • Great value bike and easy to be seen colour. Very good entry level bike and I bought a really good quality mens jersey that is a very good match from Suarez Clothing UK. They even call it the Carrera TDF!
