Is there any work or volunteering that doesn't require a DBS check?
What do you mean by this? That many checks are being carried out for roles which do not require it?
Or that the level and type of check may be wrong: they've changed the definitions: regulated activity, vulnerable adult etc. We used to get an enhanced check which included working with children: now, because we do less with children than we used to we've fallen out of that definition.
Also at one time it was recommended that all charity trustees were checked if the organisation worked with children / vulnerable adults, I don't think that still has to happen.
The CRB / DBS also applies if the applicant works with finances etc as employers have a right to check if they've been on the radar for theft / fraud etc.

Chartered or certified accounts are included for DBS checks but simply working in an accounts office or having other financial responsibilities doesn't give the right for an employer to request a DBS check.
