in Cutting tax
Hi everyone
Now husband was made redundant end of april and now he has a tax rebate of approx 1300 on the way back to him.
After a right pavarla with hmrc (loosing docs etc and generally dragging their heels) they have told us on the phone the rebate is being processed....its a rebate due to paying redundancy payment at 40% so quite straight forward but then they mention security checks...which i googled and found some horrow stories. What security checks do they do bearing in mind the payment as outlined above (being payroll and straight forward)? Will it take long if we get one please?
thank you x

hi again.
tax rebate has to be security checked, we were chosen for one.
does anyone know what these are and how long?
its all been done through paye so confused as to why?0 -
I believe security checks on repayments are to ensure the identity of the person being repaid is correct and the claim isn't fraudulent.
These are either chosen at random (1 in 10 has been mentioned before) or due to the repayment being of a large amount.
HMRC try to complete these checks within 3 weeks, but I've heard of them taking up to 4 weeks.
Hope this helps0 -
thank you gregg0
