Old filling replaced and left with a pain, ache, sensitivity....

I've been directed to this board from the marriages one....

Basically....

Had a filling re-done a couple of weeks ago, now the tooth is reallyy 'sensitive' when I eat or drink. I don't have sensitive teeth, so can't say for certain that is the sensation, but its like a feeling 'inside the tooth'???

Is it worth going back? Obviously the dentist isn't my favorite place, and several miles away, if its something that can happen I'd leave it.

MODS - not after medical advice, just those who have had fillings re-done for there experiences. Thanks.

  • This is a dilemma similar to mine.

An old filling fell out, and I kept procrastinating as I really hate going to the dentist.

The dentist dug very deep and said that if the filling didn't 'settle' root canal work or an extraction might be necessary.

If the filling is no good, then the sooner you go back the better. On the other hand, just like bruising etc. you need to give it a while to repair the damage.

My previous fillings took almost no time to recover from, but this replacement took weeks.

The first two days were very bad - I almost went back to the dentist for help - but slowly things got better. I did some research online, and this was really useful. I upped my dose of Iburofen and that helped a lot.

It did feel as though something deep inside was swollen and pushing the tooth up. This feeling has returned twice, but it is not really hurting.

Thanks for that. Its not a constant, just when I eat or drink. And then lasts a little while after that.

Its hard describing a pain, but I 'think' it may be a sensitivity pain....

I'll call the dentist tomorrow, if only so its recorded against the filling in case it doesn't go away.
