Hi
Having problems with kitchen and downstairs bathroom drains. Both regularly clog up, and the water at times takes ages to drain.
I have tried bi-carb of soda, and on other occasions, a few kettles of hot water. Both work, but not for long.
Any other ideas?

I use Soda crystals. Boil the kettle, pour a small amount of hot water down the plug hole, then pour about a cupful of crystals then enough hot water to just flush them down. (you don't want to dilute it to much) Leave for at least an hour then pour a kettle of boiling water down.
I do this every fortnight (but my dad used to do drainwork as a builder so a bit fanatical about keeping them clean!)
If it doesn't work you can get sink unblockers (Mr muscle does one) they cost more but do work. You can then stay on top of it with Soda Crystals. Hope that helps!0 -
A lot of the time that drains get blocked it's 'cos of what gets thrown down there. Use kitchen towels or old newspapers to wipe everything, make sure no fat of any type gets a chance to go down the drain.
To clear it i'd start by taking the trap off and clearing that out, it's not a difficult job.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Have you tried drain clearing rods? Perhaps somebody you know has a set or I don't think they are that costly at places such as B&Q.
I had a similar problem in my home recently regarding my kitchen sink. Tried the things you did, plus various chemicals, then friends came & rodded it. That seemed to do the trick, but problem returned a couple of months or so later & ended up deciding to call out Dyno-rod.
A pricey solution, but finger crossed that's the end of the problem & at least I got a guarantee from the company, so can call them back if not.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
