My son's laptop has started playing up. He used to have Malawarebytes, but when he used it, it froze the computer, so he decided to uninstall it.
It all started when he decided to install a Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. When he realized it made things go slower, he proceeded to do a system restore. Then, his Avira antivirus started freezing, and we everything was way too slow.
We are now downloading Avira again.
Would anyone have any suggestions?

Ensure any important data is backed up then factory restore. Saves faffing around.
Either factory restore from "factory partition" OR the disk(s) that you created when you bought the computer OR any disk images (e.g Macrium) you have created since you bought the computer. If none of this makes any sense to you please tell us the computer make and model. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Run a disk check.

SP1 for Win7 was released March 18, 2010. Without it installed, the OS is no longer supported.

What is the brand name and model number of said laptop? How much RAM is installed?0

It's a Stone computer given by Family Fund. Not sure about RAM, I will have to ask him when he gets in0

The laptop here?
I would think about a clean install of Windows 7 with SP1. Then you can also get rid of that NetIntelligence if it doesn't suit. Does it have any specialist software installed?
Tell him to pop on with the laptop and we'll talk him through it...or are you doing it?0 -
If you are concerned about a clean install(not Factory Restore), look here instead. and then to waddler8 and closed for a clean up.
I prefer the clean install.0 -
If he's been uninstalling important updates which is why the computer no longer works properly, perhaps he should go without for a week or two, to help him understand why you don't remove security products? Or at least after a rebuild don't give him an administrator account.0
