Nationwide mortgage nightmare

Since our agreement in principal, we have been waiting 8 weeks for our mortgage offer.
As first time buyers, we gave our landlord notice etc, and have to be out of our current accommodation in 17 days. To make matters worse, part of our deposit will be coming from a military scheme, which, once the mortgage is confirmed, will take 10 days to complete. Add to that time for the payment to clear etc, we are looking at being pretty much homeless in just over 2 weeks. We also have a child. Stress does not even start to cover it!
Our financial advisor has been in touch with nationwides area manager to explain and has now been told three times that the offer will be sent the same day. Still nothing. After being told the whole process would take 4-6 weeks, we allowed for 10 to be sure we had plenty time.
Between lost paperwork and valuations going out of date, we are at our wits end! Is there anything we can do to hurry things along?

Have you been told what the delay is?

Is there any way that you can negotiate with the LL to stay a bit longer, or has he already got new tenants lined up?

Your solicitor really should have advised you - if s/he knew that you were in rented accommodation - not to give notice until you had exchanged.
  • Landlord already has a new tenant scheduled to move in the day after we move out. We also had to give 28 days notice which we put off for as long as possible as we were supposed to be getting the keys on the 1st of August. The sellers are being very good and will wait for us, but its the thought of the in between bit thats stressful!
  • Have had no explanation for the delays. But they did loose our paperwork, then we had to send more documents, then the home report was out of dat so a new one was issued, then they were looking at the old one!
