Looking for a new pedal cycle (or battery)

We have a pair of old mountain bikes, in pretty good condition as little used. They are heavy and I find the suspension saps alot of the energy.
We are moving house and it would be good to cycle to the pub and back, but their is a mother of all hills on the route, hence why we were thinking battery power. Its only tops of a mile each way.
Can anyone / recommend options. We don't want to spend a huge sum on each bike.

Electric bikes tend to be expensive and heavy because of the battery. You would be better off getting a nice lightweight hybrid and building up your fitness on it. For the hill take it slowly and stop if you need to or walk a bit with it. You will soon find that you can get up the hill no problem.
This is nice and cheap http://www.decathlon.co.uk/fit-3-road-bike-grey-id_8239797.html.0 -
Thanks, its more likely down here the bike will have top come from halfords (there are a couple of independants), whats important to look for on a now bike?
There seems to be a number of bikes on at a sale price in halfords (whether this is genuine price reduction who knows) so really I'm after a guide on what equipment to look for.0 -
When you have moved house put 50 psi into the tyres and then try cycling to the pub. Rear suspension may be adjustable so try tightening it. Its ok to walk up the hill. Personally I would be more worried about going down the hill so make sure the brakes are working well.
Replacing little used bikes for a one mile journey seems pointless.0 -
It should be possible to 'lock out' the suspension. This will make the bikes more rigid so give better energy transfer. The gearing on them should get you up pretty much everything anyway.
A newer, lighter bike is likely to save you about 30 seconds in the journey anyway. It's only numbers.0
