scotcall debt help desperately needed.

hi I could really use some advice. I hope this is the right place to ask.
I have a smallish debt which was originally with student loans for not deferring the loan fast enough, which subsequently was passed to ccs. I'm currently out of work and have recently had a baby. My only income is child benefit. My partner has a good enough job that we've managed to scrape by whilst I'm out of work but it's financially very tight. I explained to ccs that I had no income to pay the debt with and they clearly decided to cut their losses. They told me to speak to student loans about it, but when I rang them they said they could do nothing and didn't even have access to the records.
I have since received a letter from scotcall so they must have passed the debt on saying someone will visit me which scares me to death as I'm always in on my own with the baby. Then today I had a phone call from them. They wanted me to confirm my address but I didn't as I hadn't connected the name of the company with the letter and when I asked who they were the caller got very tetchy and said they'd sent me a letter, refer to that and then hung up. Now I don't know what to do if they phone or send someone round. I really can't afford to pay them anything. I'm already struggling with other debts and household bills. Does anyone have any advice?

Ok, sounds like they sold on the debt to Scotcall.
Who are CCS?:beer:0 -
CCS - are they a debt collection agency?
Suggest you contact Stepchange, Payplan, National Debtline or CAB who all offer free impartial advice and they will advise your best course of action.
OP, if it's any consolation, Scotcall sent me loads of letters saying they would send and agent around and I ignored most of the letters (I'm female and on my own). I did write to them on one occasion basically telling them not to call and they wrote back saying they weren't going to anyway! lol! So just hot air. And I owed quite a bit as well.
Just out of interest OP, how much is your debt? I ask this as it costs them money to send someone to your doorstep and if you owe a small amount and then it's probably not worth their while sending someone.
Also, these agents have no legal rights at all so if they do turn up you don't even have to answer the door to them. I suggest that you don't speak to them again on the phone and if they do turn up...just tell them to sling their hooks or you will call the police and shut the door. They have about as many legal rights as the paper boy.
It might be worth writing to them though and perhaps offering them a token payment until you can get something sorted - £1.00, £5.00 whatever you can afford. National Debtline have some good template letters you can use for this.
Good luck.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Firstly id say relax, My husband used to work for scotcall and i have it on good authority that they can not enter your home, the only thing someone will be doing if they come out is trying to coax you into making a regular payment, and if you ignore THEM long enough they pass it on to yet ANOTHER debt collection company apparently, so i wouldnt panic too much perhaps a £1 a week for now would suffice, it cant hurt to try, they rarely refuse any form of token gesture as it shows you are cooperating but they are not.0

the only people that can enter your home is a bailiff or a police officer (ONLY IF THEY HAVE A LAWFUL WARRANT) even if the old bill were to knock on your door and ask to come in one day without a warrant you can simply say no as they are public servants, and as for DCA's, you can tell them to go swivel because they can't do a damn thing, i had a letter from resolvecall who are a part of scotcall and i sent them an e-mail saying if they came anywhere near my property they would be removed from the property with reasonable force if need be as they don't have an appointment and i was removing their implied rights of access, also told them it was fruitless sending a doorstep collector because the doorstep belongs to everyone in the apartment blockA man's own hand is most to be trusted0

On Wednesday 24th July 2013 at 19:35 I received a call from Scotcall. I was asked by the caller "Can you verify your home address", where I asked "Can you tell me what this is about" The caller said "I am sorry but for Security/Personal reasons I can not tell you that" I then replied "Well unfortunately I can not give my details out as I have been scammed before this way and could you send a letter out and I will reply to it" The caller then said "I sent one out last week and I wont be sending another" No sooner did I say a few words the caller hung up on me.
I then called Scotcall back where a young lady answered and I told her what happened and she said "Can you hold the line" After waiting a minute she came back and said "I am sorry but there was nothing wrong with that call"
Seriously, I still aint got a clue as they would not help me at all.0
