PC Advice

Hi all,
My son is 15 the end of the month and we've promised him a replacement for his old pc for use both for his school work, the net and the odd game.
I want to spend under £500 but can't decide on a choose your own spec from Dell or PC Specialist or to chose something from the likes of Novatech.
Grateful for any suggestions?

Titch :)

Go for Dell or HP. I have been in IT for many (many, many) years and both these companies are reliable, long lasting and have great support

Try https://www.morgancomputers.co.uk I was recommended them years ago by one of my tutors in university - they have been going for at least 13 years that i know of. Good prices, aparently very good service too!

What sort of games does he like? Is computing a hobby to him? If so he may have some input into its source, or may want to spec his own components for a self build.
HP PCs are good and their warranties work. I spec them for projects at work occasionally. The Novatech systems are nice as well with reasonable components. The guts of my machine came from them last year.
If he is into games then choose one that comes with a reasonable graphics card. If it says "On board graphics" or "Integrated graphics" then that might not be good enough to play his games on. These days its games that demand a decent pc. Include min 1GB of memory. 2GB even better (seeing as you've got £500 there!).

    :)

Ive been building my own pc's for friends etc and myself for years now and many of the parts used over that time , such as motherboards , processors , Graphics cards etc, being bought from Novatech, i have found pound for pound in my opinion Novatech offer a more powerfull pc than the likes of dell, furthermore the customer service is excellent, and they have been around for years too.

    Regards
