Living In Halifax Calderdale Area

My wife and i first met in 2000 in Hebden bridge and ever since ive always wanted one day to move to the area around here . Ive always loved the scenery around the area and yesterday having travelled between Leeds and Preston along the railway line im hoping that next year when our rental period comes to and end we can move there . We also visited Halifax last week , again i love the town the buildings etc , and to be honest we live at the moment between Leeds and Wakey and im not a lover of the newer type of city that Leeds has become all new buildings etc . We are hoping to rent again in the area mentioned , hopefully one where we can perhaps have our own veggie plot and i know after checking out a few rental sites it will cost us a bit more .
Does anyone on MSE actually live along the corridor of towns and can give me an insight into what it like living in this beautifull area ?

I used to. hebden Bridge is good fun but I think that Calderdale is much to small for anyone under 40! If you want a quite life then go for it but the traffic is horrendous, loads of Halfax schools are terrible and I've heard a rumour that the council are planning on closing down the picture house :(

i dont live far from HB and its one of my fave places. love the feel, atmosphere, slightly kooky feel about it-really feels like you have escaped (i live in a city)
but there's not alot to do. if you want peace and quiet-perfect, and altho, i have often thought about moving there, i know i would get bored stiff.
lots going on in the summer but it depends on what you want.
i know house prices are very high! but its a beautiful place.
you have todmorden on one side and halifax on the other. i have friends living in tod and they do say it's just too quiet.
on the plus side-you have two major cities on either side-leeds and manchester. between Hebdon Bridge and Halifax is also very lovely. but you sort of start to lose the hebdon bridge feeling as soon as you start to venture out to the bigger towns. personally i wouldnt recommend coming north of hebdon bridge...towards manchester (maybe a little bit north but not too much). i speak from 27 years of experience (ok, im 28 now but stil!)

    good luck

I don't live there but we did look around Heptonstall when we were looking for this house because it's a lovely part of the world. We used to spend a lot of time in the big park in Halifax when the children were little, many Sundays wandering about the Piece Hall where they have entertainment etc. I choose to travel that way when I go to West Yorkshire, it's so much nicer than sitting on the M62 for 2 hours.

I live in a rural part of Calderdale and work in HB. It's beautiful, and I thank my lucky stars every day. There are some lovely places aound Todmorden too, if you know where to look ;)

hi, i live in halifax. it's not too bad. it depends on which area you are wanting to move to really. hebden bridge is nice, though, i like to go round there to the charity shops (some of which can be quite expensive though!!). :) dunno what else to say... lol.

I live in Halifax and it's lovely. The area we live in is five minutes from the M62 (making Leeds and Manchester both less than 30 minutes away), has great facilities (deli, baker, butcher, dry cleaner) and is a 30 minute stroll into town.

The town centre has a decent variety of shops, much of it is pedestrianised and has a thriving indoor market.

The train station is also walkable from where I live and has very regular trains to Leeds and Manchester - also calling at Hebden Bridge :)

Oh, and the school my son goes to is fabulous.

I've lived in a few places in Yorkshire and this is far and away my favourite.
