It's done! I'm free! Only there could be a snag...

erm - I haven't cancelled any of my direct debits! Doh! Is this a bad thing? Should I have? Or will the account just carry on as normal (I was told that I could keep it open albeit slightly downgraded.)

Anyway, court was grand, the clerk was really lovely and I only saw the judge for about 2 mins; he told me I'd done the right thing and was very brave. How cool is that?!

Anyway, thanks again to everyone for all the support, although I'm sure I'll be asking all kinds of pointless questions over the next feww weeks.... xxx

You need direct debits for most household bills thesedays so keeping them is easier than setting them up again. If the bank has said the account is fine then it should be.

Before going bankrupt on the advice of the CCCS I wrote a letter of first right of appropriation on my account when my salary was paid in, this asked the bank to pay all direct debits due that month. Got a phone call from Nat West today to discuss my bank account and informed them that I had gone bankrupt but that I had 1 direct debit still to come out of my account (electricity) and it was due out either Friday or Monday, she kindly informed me that this direct debit would be met as I still had money in my overdraft to meet it and the fact that my Childrens Allowance had been paid in yesterday and covered most of it I would be OK. When I met with the ORs clerk after going BR I asked her if it would be OK for my Direct Debits to be still paid from the overdraft and she said yes it would. The lady at Nat West was really nice and said she had put a note on the account to say I had gone BR and I would not be getting any more phone calls from them and unfortunately the account would have to be closed.
