Hi all, can someone help?
We obtained a decision in principle from Nationwide, managed to sell our house, had offer accepted on our new dream house..now Nationwide are refusing our mortgage because my husband is on a marriage visa. He is a US citizen, I'm a UK citizen. Nationwideare saying he must first get indefinite leave to remain, or have a 25% deposit from our own savings, no gifted money..which we don't have. Help! The ILR will come through in 2 months, have we any argument we can make on this, or are there any mortgage companies that would approve us?

Nationwide are incredibly unlikely to flex their criteria, but poor show on the advisor/broker who did not check this advance.
Dependent upon the details of loan deposit value (as a % of purchase price) income details and importantly how long he has been in the UK working, credit file etc. then there would potentially be other lenders on similar rates that would potentially look favourably on your case.
If not already with a broker, suggest you now may want to find one.
Do not tell the Estate Agents that there is a small hurdle, or it will get a lot bigger and best not entrust their local advisor either.

Thanks, we have met with an advisor as you suggested, who states that Halifax would offer us a mortgage, we find this very surprising as when we went into Halifax branch just to ask they said they wouldn't. Hmm. Lots of conflicting advice! Deciding what to do!0
