Sorry for the dumb question but my DS and I always seem to want to eat at different times. I am doing curry and rice tonight and wondered if I could dish up his portion of curry and rice and could he then re-heat it in microwave, like you would with a 'ready meal' of curry & rice
If I can re-heat it later, do I need to cover it in microwave and if so, what with ?
Again, sorry for dumb question

I would heat up the curry but make him a fresh portion of rice. Rice is nortorious for food poisoning and isn't worth the risk. My sister is an envorimental health officer who avoids rice dishes at buffets
If you must there is good advice here0 -
Thanks alwaysonthego - I appreciate your speedy response. I did suspect that rice is a dish to be wary of re-heating so thanks for the link too. I will cook fresh rice, much safer :T
Thanks again0 -
Rice is bad for food poisoning,I was once a victim and was hospitalised for 5 days,BUT if treated properly,it's nothing to worry about. When you have cooked the rice, dish up his portion and put it straight into the fridge, don't let it cool on the worktop, you could run cold water over it if you wanted to,then when DS wants his curry, heat it FULLY in the microwave, check it is piping hot and you should have nothing to worry about. The problem with rice comes when it is left sitting around out of the fridge,it needs cooling straight away.

Agree with what livinginhope has said, as long as it's done properly and not left warm (which is when it becomes nasty) then should be fine, I do it all the time. I would do them both seperately to make sure cooked evenly through, a little water on the rice will stop it drying out.One day I might be more organised...........

I would recommend that you spread the rice out onto a plate and allow it to cool quickly. Only put it into the fridge when it has reached room temperature.I have the mind of a criminal genius. I keep it in the freezer next to Mother....0 -

I think the hot food in fridge no-no is a bit of a myth to be honest with you. When food is professionally cooked to be eaten later it is cooled as quickly as possible, in fridges.
It might have been different with older ones that could have suffered from condensation, but modern fridges will cool down foods quickly with no problem. Hot food won't 'raise the temperature' in there. If you google it you'll find loads of info saying this is an old wives tale.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

This is one reason why catering fridges cost a lot more and why domestic fridges aren't suitable for catering use.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Food is put in Hot when they need to freeze it quickly, it freezes 30 times faster from hot than room temperatureHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
