A mortgage free home for Emmy

I've read lots of diaries over the years and lurked on lots of the other forums, and finally decided to properly do a diary.
I've posted a SOA on the DFWB board, any savings will be put into overpayments :-)
Before my maternity leave we were putting £600 extra in the mortgage a month, without really struggling tbh. Our income has taken a major nose dive with me now getting SMP, but overpayments should still be possible on our reduced income.
Original mortgage amount was £149,000 (2008)
Current mortgage amount £112,000 (2013)

Hoping to make some extra by:
giving more music lessons from home(am a qualified teacher)
selling outgrown baby stuff on ebay
growing more of our own to reduce grocery bills

Have set up an extra account I can transfer money too online, and then will put through the overpayments in lumps.

In an ideal world the mortgage will be gone in 10 years rather than the 20 currently remaining on the mortgage, and would have the security of our home being 'ours' before DD is in secondary school, and before DH turns 40!

Today dh and I used our free cinema tickets from the now TV trial, and had dinner at my mums instead of dining out. Would normally use an orange wednesdys if going to cinema, so still a saving of about 20 I reckon.
Cash transferred to new overpayment account, how satisfying!
I also acquire some more unused terry nappies on free cycle :money:
I fear in may become addicted to this milarky!

Tonight I made homemade pizza for dinner and used up lots of ends of packets of meat and cheese, plus a slightly suspect looking courgette. Very yummy and saved around four pounds on buying a nice one from the co-op. Money transferred :-)
I also made a pile of baby food out of lentils I found in the cupboard, frozen veg and the carrots in the fridge. All portioned and frozen. Might move another few quid over as should save buying pouches in the long run when I haven't had time to cook!
In fact I will just transfer it now :-) yay!

Urgh, dh just ordered 200 worth of travel for the drive. It was the cheapest available and he got some , but still........ it couldve waited. At least it won't need done again for a few years hopefully.
A load of nappies and laundry got soaked in a thunder storm, so needed tumble dried as the airer was full :-(
Going to visit friends and have offered to bring dinner, which will save contributing to getting a takeaway. Theres pizza dough in the freezer, and found a bag of grated cheese lurking in the chest freezer. Will get a packet of salami in aldi and have veg in the house, so that should save about ten pounds I think. Will transfer it over :-)

Have just set a reminder on dh s phone to go and buy and daily record in the morning for the fiver off at aldi voucher. Shopping list is done and think we'll stock up on baby wipes while they're on offer and will get us up to the forty pound spend swell!

    hi and welcome.
i see you use washable nappies. Do you use washable wipes too? I find I save a fortune by not buying them either. :)

I love the idea of washable wipes, dh really not keen :-( took a lot of persuading on the nappy front, but he does admit they're not actually much extra work (they wouldn't be for him, I wash, dry and stuff/snap them!). I actually bought a cheap fleece and a couple of 20p towels in IKEA to make some, but the cutting hurt my hands, am such a wimp! Mil has offered to make them though, shall take her up on it I think!
Did you make your own or buy? Cheeky wipes sound great but seem pricey.
Might be able to get dh to compromise though and agree to disposable wipes when we're out, reusable at home!

Saved about 8 pounds on the grocery shop at aldi with the daily record vouchers :-) then my lovely mum took us all out for a nice lunch, I even had pudding! We were planning to go out for a cheap lunch at a place we had a half price voucher for anyway, but mum insisted we went to the fancy place, her treat. Was delicious!
Will put the money saved on the groceries aside and take out less next month, and move the 12 we would've spent on lunch into overpayment account :-)
