Ok, first thing first - you can only be self employed if you choose the hours you work. There is more to it than that, but that is a good starting point.

As for taking out 5%, if you have no benefit from it then find another agency.

Better still, pay me 10% of your annual earnings for employment advice ;)

    Phil.

I love my job and it's a unique one (well only 2 other companies have the contract for this particular job)

I rarely do any work for these people but I like the work! I'm pretty sure it's not 100% self-employed (to say the least) but ah well..

@£8.55 an hour, after a 5% deduction the pay is still good!
  • Is Inland Solutions an Umbrellor Company ? Would the client deal with you if you were a sole trader ?
  • Nothing at all really.

We have no choice that's the only way the recruitment agency will pay us.

Also I know that it saves them money making us 'self-employed' - no employers NI ,no employment rights or holiday pay

The recruitment agency can pay you via PAYE (although the hourly rate is usually less) or it can buy a service (which could be labour by the hour with a specific skill.

    Google IR35 to start with.

    Really ? Define "Good".

    Phil.

That's a red herring, but one I'd use if the HMRC wanted to discuss status

They ONLY pay via Inland Solutions

PAYE would mean we had employment rights, holiday pay and potentially NI contributions (even pension!)
