Abnormal smear test results

I'm just wondering if anyone else has received abnormal smear test results and what happened next?
I had a letter yesterday saying I had boarderline changes, which I assume is the best of the worst cases (if that makes sense) and that I tested positive for HPV.
I now have to wait up to 8 weeks before I receive another letter giving me an appointment for a colposcopy. I can see this dragging on a bit.
I have a pelvic ultrasound tomorrow as well for investigation so maybe that will show something else but the Doctor said the symptoms would be different for any results from the scan than from the smear test.

My experience was a long , long , time ago , so only posting to reassure you that having the colposcopy treatment is a very good thing to do. I never had any problems with smears after that , although I did always use barrier methods of contraception. I was very concerned to learn of and listen to women who declined to have the treatment. Their choice of course . The doctor told me that my problem was more extensive than anticipated and warned me about all sorts of things which could happen ( but never happened ) , but of course he had to cover every eventuality .To be honest , would rather get colposcopy than go to dentist. Good luck.0

I've got a thread on the Families board about this - I have severe dyskaryosis and need a fairly swift colposcopy. I got lots of support on there Becky - go have a look

I had an abnormal smear 2 years ago and had to go to the hospital for the colposcopy, I was terrified at the time, but it was fine, no worse than a smear apart from the scratch when they took a biopsy.
I had to go back to the hospital yearly as there were minor changes they wanted to keep an eye on. Had this years check last week and im awaiting the results atm but the consultant I saw said he thought everything looked fine and that if the results said the same then I could go back to smears with my Drs surgery every 3 years.0
