Exercise ideas for an obese person

Also don't go shopping when hungry. I know I buy more unhealthy things when I go shopping hungry.Jennifer_Jane wrote: »Also, if you have very little self-discipline (if I buy a cake I will eat the whole lot, and I'm not talking fairy cake here), what I do is try to go as little as possible to the supermarket.
Re: exercise ideas - have you considered cycling? I find it more fun than running, plus I prefer to excersie outside rather than inside, it's less monotonous - though in this heat I've not been cycling at all, I think I'd collapse!0 -

Is this to me or the OP? If to me, then no thank you. I'm 66 and find the local roads/drivers on rural roads, and hills a bit too much for me. Cycling is best IMHO, for the young(ish).0 -
I lost 62lbs in a year. I did it by changing what I eat. My older daughter is Coeliac and I thought it may come through my side of the family. I looked for a food regime I would be able to follow for life, not just to lose weight. I did a lot of reading and found Paleo/Primal/Caveman. Basically 0ne tries to eat similarly to our hunter gatherer ancestors. Obviously we can not do it exactly but a fair approximation is good enough. No wheat, no rye, no barley, no oats. Purists won't eat dairy products, nightshades or legumes. When started I did not exercise.I am classed as obese due to being over 13 stone and short
Exercise:- Start doing what strength training you can to short time length but high intensity. Get out of your chair, sit down again and repeat as fast as you can for as long as you can. Press ups against a wall, when you can do 30, go lower on to a table or the side of the bath, when you can do 30, try doing full press ups. Dips, I go between two chairs, starting off with legs bent and move on to legs outstretched. Squats, feet shoulder width apart and squat down low and come back up. When you can do thirty like that put the feet closer together. Sit ups or Plank. Again start easily and make progression. Bridge, lay on your back and try to make bridge by pushing your belly in the air. I suggest you Google each of these exercises to find the best progression for your circumstances. The way I see it, we need to have muscles to hold our bones together better and be able to do whatever it is we want. You may hear a lot about aerobic capacity, you can get this by sprinting for 20-30 seconds three times in fairly rapid succession and doing this two or three times a week. Lastly, we need to do quite a bit of low level activity like walking, gardening or whatever. I walk a mile or so to town and get the shopping in a rucksack five days a week.
There's no need for any expensive kit or to go public until you're ready. I recommend this book for fitness training with no equipment whatsoever. http://www.alkavadlo.com/2013/04/10/al-kavadlo-pushing-the-limits/
Back to food:- I bought the book these people wrote and now follow their food regime. http://perfecthealthdiet.com/The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Just a warning for some who are relying on exercise solely as a way of losing weight. It can be done but you would need to an awful amount to see results, i.e. a pound of fat equals 3500 calories meaning that it would take quite a few miles of running depending on the speed and size of the runner.
Also do not fall in to the trap of thinking you have earned a treat after an exercise session. I have seen people working out hard for an hour and then having a bag of crisps washed down by a 500ml bottle of Lucozade which in some instances would give them a net increase in calories.0 -
Any news from the OP how things are going? Managing to make any headway? Been thinking about you...0
