Remortgage Redemption Statements - Confused

Hello,
Recently moved my mortgage to a new lender.
I completed on the actual day that my existing monthly payment was due to my old lender as not to incur a massive wad of daily interest charges. (4th July)
Now:
On 4th July my actual closing balance with Santander was £131,856.82
+ a redemption fee of £225 which took my balance to
£132,081.82
Then this is where i get confused:
Santander then said that on the 4th July they will take my normal monthly payment of £780.42, of which will then automatically get refunded to me within 10 working days later
They then said that they take another months payment, but add this to the final redemption balance to stop me "cancelling the direct debit at 23:59 on July 3rd and them being out of pocket"
So the final balance that moved over to the West Brom was
£132,862.20
Now the West Brom were only lending me £132,500 so i had to pay the £362.20 difference to the solicitor in order to complete.
Now Santander have refunded the £780.42 which they took on July 4th, which they said they would.
But im now confused as to what i have paid the solicitor 362.20 for.
As far as i am concerned at 00:01 on July 4th 2013 my closing balance with Santander was £132,081.82 (balance + 225 redemption)
I only had this shortfall because Santander put this extra monthly payment onto my balance.
Ive tried speaking to the Soliciotor but he spoke in riddles and just kept assuring me im not out of pocket
Ive tried speaking to Santander but they just baffled me in jargon and sent me round the houses.
Can some sane normal person try to explain to a thicket exactly whats happened here.
Am i right in thinking im massivly out of pocket here?
TIA
