Estate Agent requires ID after offer

Totally ethical - they will be paid anyway - and so what if it wasn't (Ethics do not appear to be a major component of this relationship anyway).
I strongly suggest you cut and paste the policy statements I have included in my post #3 to the agent, tell them that how you want the show run and that if they still require ID you will arrange your qualified adviser to forward certified copies of ID.
Forward your revised offer direct to the vendor (as a result of the reluctance of the EA to do so despite the regulatory requirements to do so) and copy to agent (if you wish).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I had the same problem. You do not need to give them your id, particulary when your offer hasnt been accepted. The estate agents are trying to lure you into their offices to see their mortgage adviser.
I stuck to my guns, and sure enough, my offer was put forward, accepted and then I was happy to go into the esate agents with my passport (did this on the day I knew the mortgage adviser didnt work!)0 -
GOOD NEWS! I have just heard back from the Estate Agent and our offer has been accepted!!

They did ask that I take my ID and then they can pass it to the vendor solicitors. Now we have had an offer accepted I do not mind as much lol.FTB

Still absolute bunk !!! - the vendors' solicitor has no reason/need to identify/check you - he/she relies on your solicitor.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

You still do not need to take in ID. There is absolutely no legal requirement (even the OFT guidance says that) - as buyer your solicitor will need to do it and you should refer the agent to your solicitor in due course.GOOD NEWS! i don't think its unreasonable to take ID in, especially if you made it a condition of your offer that they stop marketing it. you could be some total random away with the fairies person that deludes themselves they can buy a house and use a fake name and it will take some time for your solicitor to send it through so seller could totally loose out (obv i am not suggesting you are!!!).
i was asked to bring in my mortgage offer and ID after mine was accepted. i did not have a mortgage offer yet so had to have a chat with theirs to satisfy the EA that i would get one. i was not pressurised at all though so just take a copy with you if if you have your offer in writing. i didn't buy from w h brown btw!:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0
