Nissan GT Academy

Nissan GT Academy (Qualifying Time Trial)

I just wondered if anyone has downloaded this latest demo of the Gran Turismo game from the playstation store (or xbox equivalent)?

It has a few days left of a competition where the the top 31 drivers are invited to a race camp to drive real cars and the winner from race camp will ultimately train in a driver development programme and could potentially have a chance to qualify as a Nissan racing driver.

My regional ranking is over 17,000 at the moment so im looking for any advise regading improving my times and the best driver options set-up?

Ive tried different set-up's with the Nissan 370z but at the moment have:

Auto Transmission
Tyres Hard (cant change)
Driver Line On
Active Steering Strong
Traction Control 7
Active Steering On
Skid Recovery Off (cant change)
Controller Steering Sensitivity 0

How is everyone doing?

If you have not already downloded this from the playstation store its a really good demo and worthwhile, cant wait for the full game

No XBox equivalent, GT is Playstation only (as Forza is XBox only).
I find the academy things infuriating, driving millimetre perfect around a course (Silverstone this year) within artificial boundaries that the programmers have set (you can use this kerb, but not that one, etc).
You haven't mentioned whether you're on a controller or wheel, but I can't imagine anyone ever doing well on this with a controller, you need a wheel.
Load the SLOWEST ghost image you can find (which will be SECONDS faster than you) and try to copy the lines.
You need to be able to maintain speed round the corners, slow in fast out, then build up entry speed trying to hold the line. Maxxing out the red line really doesn't matter in this car, and can be slower actually. Changing up early (short shifting) can help if you think the wheels are going to spin coming out of slower corners.

You will defo need a wheel to be that good, also you'll need manual gearing, plus a lot of the top will be race experts and now the track off-by-heart.

Completely true. You can be decent with a pad but someone who is half decent with a wheel will destroy even the best pad racer.

It's a bit like playing an FPS with a controller vs a keyboard and mouse. You can be good with a pad but someone with a keyboard and mouse can be much better.

Thanks for all the replies. I am surprised as I've always thought it would be harder to control with a wheel.

Will have a look round for a wheel as I do like driving games
