How Do I Freeze Vacuum Packed Beef

Options
I have bought a vacuum packed joint of topside beef which we were going to have on last Sunday. We didn't end up having it and so I need to freeze it (it says freezable on the packaging). Do I freeze it as it is or unwrap it and wash it first (we've had some horrible tasting meat in the past that tasted as though the blood around it had gone off). Do I wash in water or vinegar?

Just freeze it as it is. I have done this on a number of occasions in the past and it's always been fine.

    Hi beachbeth,

I agree with LandyAndy, it should be fine to freeze as it is.

I've never washed meat before....I think the recent guidelines are that meat is better not to be washed as it tends to splash around the sink and spreads the bacteria everywhere.

    Hi

I'd just freeze as it is. I do and have never had any problems.

i would just freeze it as said before about splashing around etc, things like this are usually fine to freeze in the packaging provided, the only time i dont do this is if the pack is larger than i need for one meal or if somehow ive split packaging etc

Don't unpack, don't wash as you would not want to dry it. I would be surprised if washing improves its flavour. Also, keeping the vacuum packaging protects it better in the freezer.
