Tesco self scan and vouchers

Does anyone know what the rules for these are?

I had a 'use me twice' voucher and noticed it said it was not valid at self service checkouts (which I assume self scan count as). Why this should be the case I don't know as the computer can tell how many times the voucher has been used, but, whatever.

My local Tesco has now got self scan and I found it very good BUT, I have several vouchers including a "*Save £6.00*" one.

The thing is, that the "Save £6.00" voucher DOES say: "Hand to the checkout operator" but DOES NOT say "Not valid for self service".

So if anyone knows the rules on these it would be helpful because otherwise I'll have to queue up at customer services (often a long queue) before deciding whether I can self scan or not.

I think they have put that on because you need to put the coupon in the coupon slot and if you do that you can't use it the second time.

They do actually scan on the self checkouts though.

For every coupon that you use on a self serve machine you then need to post it through the coupon slot. IT counts them, thus trusts that you've put the coupon in that you actually scanned.

How can you do that if you have not used it before and it's a times two voucher?

If it wasn't on there, I'm sure we'd have people moaning on here about their rights as the coupon was stolen from them with one use left.

The important point (of which I was not aware) being that you have to give up the coupon, not just scan it. That makes it perfectly clear.

Very easily. Of course, since you don't get it back you wouldn't want to. ;)

It seems that Tesco have created this (very minor) problem by issuing one 'use twice' voucher, rather than two separate vouchers. (Which also makes extra work for the cashiers and hence slows down service for all.)

Possibly some obscure piece of marketing psychology that has told them people will perceive a 'use twice' voucher as having a higher value than two 'use once' ones. Seems a little unlikely though.
