Think i'm wrong get over to consumer action group forum on debt ;)

Welly, could you provide me with a link to the forum you mentioned? Is there any basis that reinforces your opinion on what I ought to do (or not do in this case)?

There's no such thing as 'wrong' in this instance as advice on the best action to take is subjective.

However, should the OP choose to ignore the debt he could be taken to court. Whether they will actually take him to court or not is another matter, but he runs the risk.

Any idea where I should start (with whom) in terms of contacting one of these agencies about the debt? I know I could then ask them to provide me with Credit Agreements and proof of ownership of the debt etc. Do you think they would have all of the records of the account; purchases, interest, charges etc. as I am of a mind to dispute the amount they are seeking. From what I understand, these companies buy these debts at a fraction of their value then seek to recoup the full amount. However, I would argue that at no time did I ever owe Barclaycard what the DCA's are now asking for. Do you (or anyone else) know whether these DCA's would ever consider an offer against a reduced figure? Thanks again for any help.

DCAs often accept reduced full and final settlements, but usually only if you can pay it in one lump sum. If you're offering instalment payments, they're less likely to accept a reduced amount.

The DCA has to be able to prove and justify the debt and any charges otherwise it's unenforceable, so if they try to spin some BS about why they can't provide you with such information, then you don't pay them a penny. Simple as.

At this point I wouldn't acknowledge that the debt is actually yours, but just word it in such a way that isn't lying either. For example, you could say that you do not recall ever dealing with the DCA and would like to see proof of the debt and any relevant charges. This isn't a lie (because you dealt with Barclaycard, not the DCA), nor does it acknowledge the debt.
    What will your verse be?

Forget about the moving bit, It will be on your credit file as they cross link any credit such as mobile contracts and the like so unless you pay for everything in cash they will have the old and any new addresses,

Any basis... Yes you have taken out some sort of credit in the last six months, If not taken, enquired about it either you or partner,

DCA's seem to have got hold of a load of old debts lately and are on a phishing trips,

Partner got a phone call on Sat teatime from a DCA telling her she owed lots of money and she needs to pay it or court will be next, DCA gives partner ref No and a phone No to call so she can sort out a payment plan, Gave my partner a few questions to ask them,

First was when was it taken out, answer 2000
When was the last payment paid, answer 2002 :D

All this is on record as i record all phone calls :D

The recording is now with the O.F.T and the FO,

And before people start she never had any credit at the last address.

I'm happy you had a favourable outcome in this situation!

However, I am sure that MY account is NOT yet statute barred though it must be close. All my addresses are known to Experian, just seems puzzling that they don't have it a record of the debt what so ever. Again, I would be prepared to settle the old debt as I am now in a position to do so (with a repayment plan I might add, not won the lottery!). But I do not want to be paying all of the charges that have quite clearly been added to the account since I lost contact with Barclaycard...

I think the 7 days I was given by Raven Recoveries is up tomorrow... Guess I will see whether this is another batch of hot air or whether they will follow it up with some kind of legal action. At this point, I would be inclined to THEN ask for proof of the debt and proof of ownership of the debt before agreeing to pay anything... I think...

At this point I would like to add that I have only a small amount of well managed personal debt. I am not someone who has over the years racked up thousands on some kind of irresponsible shopping trip. It seems many forum members have little sympathy for that type of individual, however, this is NOT me. Its just that now this account is getting close to SB and also, because of how much MORE it is than I actually spent on the card (not to mention the years prior of high interest and other charges I have paid to them) I am incredibly reluctant to offer anything until I have no choice. Its just a question of working out when that is!

Why are you trying to avoid paying what you owe? You claim not to be irresponsible, but such behaviour suggests quite the opposite.

That's not a bad strategy but you will need to act quickly if that happens.

Time limits given by dcas usually mean nothing.

Sky then decided to get out of the credit card business and my account was transferred to Barclaycard, not that I had any choice.

I don't get what is meant by this?
They are chasing me for £4888. The limit on the credit card was £3500 and I never went over it so there is obviously a lot of charges and interest been added.

    .......

I would probably be prepared to pay the money back but I completely dispute the balance being chased as I am sure I only owed slightly under the credit limit of £3500.

Do you remember how much you owed orginally? As you can appreciate, they are entitled to add interest on for the many years that the account was ignored but assume no breakdown was given. Interest would only have been frozen if you called when the difficulties arose and attempted to resolve the matter
