Bear in mind that if you turn off the headset he'll not be able to converse with the rest of his team regarding in-game tactics/ asking for healing etc. I've had teenaged sons on Xbox Live since the original xbox and while the swearing does go on (usually the younger kids btw rather than adults) it's no different to what you'd hear in a High school playground or on a school bus.
It's only a game

Thanks all. I've taken advice and purchased a redeemable voucher which all seemed well until my son and I tried to play a multi player game - we can't unless I also pay £39 for the privilege.
Can this be right? I've checked online and if I sign in as a guest, we can play multi player.
I'm beginning to think Microsoft was the wrong choice of console never have I seen such nonsense.
Any guidance welcomed again thank you.0 -
Have you applied the code to his account? You need to press the xbox button on the controller then scroll to the left and there is a redeem code or voucher option and put in the code there. It should say you have now redeemed the code and he has 12 months xbox live0

also be carefull when you set up the account regarding what date of birth you put in since that also affects what accounts can be played online..
do wonder if the xbox has got different profiles on it, and maybe they havent followed through setting up the xbox live to one of the accounts..
cdkeys is also good for xbox live codes if you havent paid out yet.. they have a like page on facebook which gives a bit more discount from the normal price they charge too!..0 -

I don't understand any of this. It's very straightforward. Buy a voucher, redeem voucher and play. Did you do all of this? Did you enter the code properly? Did you buy a code from a hooky site?0 -

The only way this would apply is if you are trying to play a game that you do not own and so are in the Marketplace trying to buy a game. Most games (although not ALL) are free to play online so unless you have been robbed when you bought the XBL card you should be all set up to play online.
Or if you are trying to play a multiplayer game with him and yourr account does not have Gold then that could also be the issue. No One I Think Is In My Tree.:cool:0 -
re-reading your comment.. depends how you have set the account up..
If your sons profile connects to xbox live and plays multi-player games fine..
Then you connect controller to play split screen cod or Fifa, then are prompted to connect to xbox live ..
then yes that secondary profile also needs to have an xbox live account or use the Guest Facility of the Main account. Thanks all. Each individual profile needs to have its own xbox live membership. So you will need one for your son and one for you if you both want to play online.......You can get a family membership but I don't think this works out any cheaper.
I wouldn't put your credit card details on if I were you, why not put a prepay card or a debit card with very little money in the account? My son has his own debit card registered to his xbox account, this way he can buy things with his money, but can't spend more than he has......
I haven't put parental controls on, never have on anything, if I can't trust my boys not to walk away/turn it off if anything inappropriate happens then I'd never let them go out alone either! They know what's acceptable in our house, and what isn't and have not had any problems, even on games like COD which they play even though they aren't old enough to buy!!0 -
Thank you! So after all my nervousness I have used £39 gold xbox live and now see I needed £78! Get it about the guest signing in but I bet there are restrictions on me!
Well so far xbox looks like its lost my recommendation to anyone considering a console. Thank you to all for help and advice!0
