help please regarding my tickets/times

Options
hi, im going with the family to chessington on sunday next week. we havent been on the train in over 7 years so are a little confused.

these are our travel details

Cambridge- Tottenham Hale 07:32 -08:29 Greater Anglia
Tottenham Hale- Vauxhall 08:34- 09:10
Vauxhall- Chessington South 09:25 -09:55 South West Trains

so, we get off at tottenham hale at 8:29.
do we then get back on at tottenham hale at 8:34?!
or is it a case of changing trains, going to a different platform etc?

how would we find out what platforms we need to be at. 5 minutes isnt much time to get off one train and onto another is it?

also having trouble finding return times. we have off peak return tickets and want to return monday evening probably leaving chessington around 5pm.

instead of getting off at cambridge on the way back, could we stay on and get off at ely- or would we need to buy a different ticket

sorry- majorly confused! thanks

When you get off at Tottenham Hale the first time, immediately look for a TV screen on the platform detailing departures. If in doubt, ask a member of staff. I don't know the station at all so I can't advise you if you will have to change to a different platform - you've left quite a short timeframe so you may have to leg it! If you google 'Tottenham Hale train station', you should be able to find out how many platforms it has.

For return, it will depend on the type of ticket purchased - does it say 'All Routes' on it? In which case you probably could stay on.

It sounds like the route and train operator are specified on the ticket. I think your best bet would be to ask at the station or the train guard.

In regards to Tottenham Hale its quiet a simple layout so should be easy to see where you need to be. If you go to National rail and put your journey in it should come back with the platform numbers.
In regards to coming back you could stay on (presuming its going to Ely)? But you will need to purchase the extra journey leg ticket. If you have chance either buy this in the morning or before your return. Hope this helps.
    Back on the trains again!

When you get off at Tottenham Hale, you will need to go up the stairs and onto the footbridge following signs for London Underground, as you will need to use the Underground to get to Vauxhall. Enter through the Underground Ticket Barriers with your tickets and then once down the escalator and look for the "Southbound" Platform which will take you to Vauxhall.

Then at Vauxhall you need to go up the escalator and exit the Ticket Barriers and follow signs for National Rail (if you take the exit on the right it leads you right into the station without needing to cross any roads) Then use your tickets to get into Vauxhall National Rail station and go to Platform 8 where the train to Chessington will depart from.

Your off-peak ticket is valid at Any time on Weekends and Bank Holidays.

Yes you will need new tickets to cover Cambridge to Ely, and these must be bought before boarding if there is an open ticket office at any of the stations you start or interchange at. :)

Your off-peak ticket is valid from Chessington at any time after 09:30 so no problems in the afternoon, but you may need to check the validity on the Greater Anglia services back from Tottenham Hale to Cambridge as they do normally have evening peak restrictions. (generally travel after 7pm is permitted)

    You're very welcome :p

5 Minutes is enough so long as all of you can walk at a normal pace and can use the stairs rather than the lift!

Yes your ticket is flexible, you can take any connecting London Underground service or National Rail train, they run every 3-4 minutes anyway from Tottenham Hale towards Vauxhall.

The service from Vauxhall to Chessington South is only every 30 minutes although you seem to have a 15min connection which is more than sufficient!

Sorry I failed to see that you are travelling on a Sunday, therefore there are NO restrictions on your ticket at all with regards to timings, you can travel at ANY time. :)
  • Sorry if my info was a bit off. Was just heading out and wasn't until I mentioned to my son he pointed out its an underground connection.
Lokol 2 thanks for your more concise reply.
    Back on the trains again!
