Job offer revoked due to DMP!

I am currently on a DMP and my first payment was in June. I was made redundant at the end of May and have still to receive redundancy money. I have been receiving job seekers and looking for a new job since. Last week I went for a job handling PPI cases on behalf on a bank - they gave me brilliant feedback and offered me the job. I had to sit and fill out all the paperwork for the contract and the HR girl went through it and asked if I had any CCJs/bankruptcy and I said no and she asked if I was in arrears so I had to tell her about my DMP. I felt so embarrassed and wanted to cry! She said that she couldn't offer the job until the Operations Manager had looked at my details. I felt so bad when my family asked how I got on and I wanted to scream out that I had been offered it but I could not tell them as they are not aware of my situation (even my husband). I got a call the next day to say they could not offer me the job due to my DMP and credit check. I feel so sick and can not believe I have got myself in this position and cannot talk to anyone as I feel totally ashamed :(

  • Don't feel ashamed.

Unfortunately, most jobs in the financial sector will not employ those with DMP's, defaults, CCJ's, BR etc. It is not a reflection on you as a person, remember that, it is purely a risk thing the same as when trying to get credit.
  • Don't feel ashamed, like Kika says you can always talk to us... The great thing about this forum is knowing you are not the only one in this situation...

Keep your spirits up, don't forget about the great feedback you got from your interview and be safe in the knowledge that you have desirable skills and are employable. Just avoid financial sector vacancies for the time being until uyoy are off your DMP

    I feel for you..
About 15yrs ago after 2 interviews I was refused a really good job because I was slightly behind with my mortgage..
they offered me the job at end of 2nd interview.. i even gave notice at my current job the next day, then paperwork came a few days later and it said subject to credit checks..
i rang the company, spoke to guy who interviewed me and explained my situation, and he said there and then that he revoked the job offer..
had to go into work the following day and ask my manager for my job back and to please ignore my notice letter..
the most humiliating day of my life...
  • i even gave notice at my current job the next day, then paperwork came a few days later and it said subject to credit checks..

I would say never, ever give notice in a current job until everything in the new one is absolutely 100%

We've had a couple where people have done it, not had relevant qualifications / failed checks & haven't therefore got the post - one lady went to her boss who wouldn't give her the job back (as it had been deleted due to efficiency savings :() and she tried to sue us but she'd never got anything in writing saying she had the job & verbal offer stated subject to checks so she got absolutely nothing ....

I know not much comfort OP, be glad it came up now, not whilst you were in a job then potentially dismissed through it the upset will pass - you did the right thing, have no regrets

On a more positive note, you could try a PPI claims management company - one with no HR department or smaller organisations is definately less strict then banks ;) is all I can say !! whatever you do never give up x
