RBS Job Offer - Credit Check Advice

I have a conditional 6 month IT contract offer for a support position with RBS. I have been told that I will have to undergo a number of vetting checks. I am security cleared, no criminal record or driving convictions and have never been unemployed during anytime in my 20 years of working, never lived outside the UK, living in my own home for the past 6 years and on the electoral role etc so I'm not worried about this part at all. The part that does worry me is the credit check. I have just completed (discharged) from my Trust Deed 9 months ago, the defaults I incurred 4 years ago have all been marked as settled and I have no outstanding balances or missed payments for anything for the past 4 years. My credit rating with Experian is 987, which is an excellent rating but I believe this doesn't mean anything. Can anyone tell me if RBS (and I suppose any financial related institution) would see my current state as positive or would it be based on something that happened 4 years ago and therefore be negative?

It would be down to the individual discretion of the decision maker, but usually having a number of defaults may not reflect in the best light on you; and a number from experian really does mean absolutely nothing - it will be based on RBS criteria.
If you fail the credit check, then its likely they will remove the offer of the role.0 -
The credit check is compared to your credit history that you disclosed on your application. The questions such as: have you ever had a CCJ/Default /been in arrears (however they may have been worded) if you've said no, no, no but your credit check flags up red red red then they have every cause to doubt your integrity.
If however you have said, yes BUT this happened and THIS is what I have done to resolve the situation blah blah and they can see it from your credit check, then you could be ok.
Obviously different companies have slightly different rules but you have to be upfront : they WILL find out.
Better to have spoken up and advised what you have done than NOT.
I worked in recruitment for a UK bank doing these checks myself and was amazed how many people didn't think that a bank might actually check!0
