Postcard and Twitter competition Enquiry

Hi there, I've never done any postcard competitions and before I do I wanted to check something.
Question1) Would it be possible to stick arts and crafts on top Of your postcard to make it more attractive. For example ribbons and what not? What are the postcard requirements by Royal Mail, I've tried to search this and cannot find an answer apart from the size.
Question 2) On twitter, I have a separate comping account would it matter when entering twitter comps asking for retweets to have no flowers. (It's difficult getting followers if you use the account to enter comps and I don't want to annoy anyone!)
Thanks in advance x:p

Q1) - I don't know - sorry.
Q2) - This thread may help you to get followers who are also compers and will not be annoyed by you tweeting competitions https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/26172570 -
Anything bulky on a postcard would take it into a large letter thickness. You've seen the slots on display in the PO? The one for letters is just a few mm deep. If you want to add colour or fancy paper it should be ok, but a bow would be too thick imo. Remember that a badge on a birthday card means that it needs a large letter stamp because of the thickness/depth restrictions. And also, don't put anything that would get caught in machinery!Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!0

well what exactly do you expect to find?
its a basic letter(there is no cheaper rate) so keep it within the size restrictions
of course bits stuck on raise the chance of it catching on machines0 -

If you are asking would the company running the competition pick your postcard out because it look attractive to them, then the answer is almost a no. The winning postcard is picked out randomly so making it attractive or not doesn't make any difference.Question 2) On twitter, I have a separate comping account would it matter when entering twitter comps asking for retweets to have no flowers. (It's difficult getting followers if you use the account to enter comps and I don't want to annoy anyone!). Seriously though if it's followers then as mentioned before there is a thread that MSE members have posted their twitter name on there. Actually I've started to notice a few of the companies that have ran competitions on Twitter have started to follow me back. Not won anything with them but having more followers does feel better :rotfl:

Thanks guys for the help
appreciate it. I only became aware about competitions when I watched this programme called High Stake sweepers on TLC about people winning loads. At one stage it showed they were decorating envelopes and cards so I thought it might make a difference. I also read something about a guy who added corks on string to his postcard and it won him a holiday. Not sure how much randomly choosing a winner had to do with it in that particular case. But I understand now

A couple of years ago a comper used to stick a coloured dot on her postcards, the ones with dots on had a better win ratio than the ones with out. I've also doodled pictures or put stickers on postcards and had better win ratio's from those ones than that were not prettified. Might just be a coincidence though xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I just remembered. One time, when I was a kid, I won a postcard comp on Live & Kicking with a circular postcard about the size of a tea plate. The person picked without looking so I don't know if the size made it stick out more or made any difference at all. Of course, this was before postal charges based on dimensions.
I guess a colour might draw the eye but, then again, a plain white one amongst lots of coloured ones would also stand out.
I don't actually do postcard comps because I don't like putting my address/info out there like that but it's interesting to think about increasing the chances of winning.Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!0 -
