Wonga Problem

I'm amazed the bank had a copy of the receipt.
Your dad paid cash over the counter depositing money into a random bank account and walked out. How did they prove it was your dad?
I find it a miracle this random cash deposit has even been linked to your account at all
I was surprised how helpful the bank were too. I think it helped that it was a small, local branch rather than the one in the town centre so they remembered him coming in. They also rang me offering to ring Wonga for me to try and get it sorted.
Why is it a miracle? Once I got a copy of the receipt proving I'd paid money into their account, and showing the exact time and which branch, it is surely a fairly simple task to tie it up?0 -
Because that is the very word that you used! And I think it's a strange way to describe an error of this kind.
Strange why? I simplified as the reason why the reference was not given is unimportant and I don't need to go into intimate detail on every aspect to get my question across. If you must know, I told my dad the payment was for credit cards as I didn't want him to know I'd taken out a payday loan, so he thought he was paying money onto my card and there was no need for a reference. Happy? Do you want me to go through what I was wearing that day now, and what my dad had for lunch?Wonga's a large company. They cannot realise/allocate/re-use funds paid into their bank until they know what they are. I think it's a very appropriate analogue.
I disagree.0 -
mnt99york,
You're unlikely to find much sympathy on here now.
pvt correctly challenged you over the background, and you still got defensive, I think you owe him/her an apology. Remember you're anonymous here, there's no point hiding information that could be important.
Nevertheless, you should put your request in writing to Wonga, send it recorded delivery and include a copy of the receipt etc.
The registered address is as follows:

Did it work out that £100 exactly cleared the loan?
Of course it is possible but remote, was this a part payment toward a larger debt to them?
My point is that there is a bigger picture you should be addressing if you have unpaid Direct Debits and out of control Payday Loans.
If you are making part payments and falling behind, you could get advice about wonga freezing the interest entirely rendering your mistake here a moot point.

Correctly challenged me on the background why? How was it relevant or important why my Dad didn't put the reference on the payment? Looking for sympathy? What?
I was after advice not sympathy. My question was answered in the first reply, and yet people seem determined to try and show I'm lying for some bizarre reason, as I were trying to claim I'd slept with a celebrity or something, rather than an inconsequential tale of woe over a payday loan!
Thank you for getting that address for me.0 -

Yes, it was just a part payment, I always make part payments each week when I get paid as it saves money in the interest, rather than paying it all off in one go at the end.
Unpaid DDs were more because of my uselessness in remembering when they're due rather than any lack of money - I'm not going to add any DDs to my new bank account anyway, I only had 2, Netflix (non-essential, can live without) and contact lenses which I'll just buy on the internet when I need them in future.
I don't need them to freeze the loan this time, I'll have paid it off in a couple of weeks. I just hope I can kill off the cycle of taking them out this time.0 -
In case anyone's interested, I kept on and on at Wonga, and eventually got to speak to a helpful person at their call centre - the interest finally disappeared from the loan on Wednesday. I'm not sure how, as we worked out it would only be about £20 in this thread, but it took the amount owed from £333 to £280 - I had moaned about the cost of all the phone calls to their 0845 number, (about £10) but I didn't actually ask them to compensate me for it...
Loan is now paid off in full :-)0 -

Which they should do after it's rolled over a few times, as they've already made the profit in the rollover. I believe this is their business model, but could be wrong.
In all honesty, speaking as a debt advisor, Wonga are one of the easier companies to deal with, and one of the fairest in how they deal with non-performing debt.
