Friday 12th July - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:
Hi Everyone
Nothing of worth to contribute but thought I'd start you off
. Hope you're all keeping well.
Love to you all

Hi Penny-savers,
La E - Wow! Great news on the salary! Well done!
Ziggy - Lovely to hear from you. Treat yourself very kindly today. I sense that you do lots of things for others......you are important too. Try & have a little treat today, even if it's as simple & free as giving yourself a foot massage & painting your toenails. It's always the funny little things that give me a lift xx
Positive money saving activities today:
Well, not many so far, tbh....
*Cleaned house using my stingy diluted annual bottle of Stardrops.
*Re-filled little plastic snack boxes with value raisins for packed lunches, etc, much cheaper than buying those little ready-filled cardboard boxes.
*Dinner as per July meal plans - mr f's cooking night, turkey mince bolognese.
*Check thru next week's meal plans & write shopping list which looks realistic for the £58 max I intend to spend.
*Pick more bunches of herbs for hanging to dry.
*Freeze chives in ice cube trays so we have some for winter use.
*Check over veggie garden & greenhouse & water. It's getting really hot again here. Not sure how we'll cope in the Midlands with seeing all this sun....we seem to have had about 4 years of endless grey murk...
*Go through diet/fitness mags to index the most useful recipes. (Helps with continued weight loss AND budget, as we've found portion/calorie control has a knock-on effect with financial outlay too).
*Remember to take big pork joint out of freezer for pulled pork tomorrow.....intend to get 3 days minimum out of that, plus packed lunch.
*mr f managed to mend cat flap first thing......had been suspiciously smashed off overnight......cat sat there looking like butter wouldn't melt......saved us having to buy a new one, anyway.
*Did surveys. Lots of Onepolls around this morning.
That's it from me today. Love to anyone who is feeling sad & rubbish today, my best wishes to everyone else for a good MSE Friday,
foxgloves x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hi,
Just back from a two-hour long job interview in a sweltering office; exhausted.com. The job doesn't appeal to me one iota but I gave it my best shot and I should know if I have it by Monday. I would take the job then immediately look for another as it doesn't match my health needs. The £25K would be nice, though!
Well done La E.
The list:
(Had a free home haircut yesterday.)
Washing on quickest cycle then out to dry on the line.
OH did shopping under budget.
Entertainment is a DVD from the cupboard and watching tv as I fixed our satellite reception problem yesterday by moving the dish back into alignment by hitting it with a broom!
Wait patiently for postie to arrive. Deal with incoming mail immediately.
Stay cool by staying indoors til this evening today. Every time I go outside I come back in wanting a shower.
Try to think of something inspirational to do this weekend.
Dinner will be potatoes from the garden and fake KFC.
Enjoy free roses that last tenant left in the garden.
See whether we have any 'spare' cash for a treat.

Free crisps (Link)
