World of Tanks

Options
Hey does any one on here play World of Tanks?

Started playing this back in November last year and been hooked since - to the point I'm thinking should I keep my PS3 as I no longer play on it properly?

Its a free to play game, though like any you can buy stuff should you want to.

Now I've started to really get in to - In a clan and competing on ESL and everything etc - I've done a budget of £20 a month for it - as if I was going to buy a new game every month (entertainment budget)

Hope to hear from you fellow players

I don't know this game, but any game where you pay to win is altering the course of gaming and it's not for the better.

I wish my husband had never been introduced to the game.He has spent a fortune on it,trying to compete with the "big boys" . Drives me mad.He retired early only to spend his time and money on it ,too much in my opinion.I hate it.

But we've argued over it too often so i just keep quiet now.

I play the game, being playing it since Oct 2010. I did stop playing for a good 6 or 7 months logged on the odd time but didn't really put much effort in. It's a good game, looking forward to playing world of warships when that comes out as played navyfield for 6 years

I play but take the zero cash approach. I've played games like this before and have always resisted the urge to spend money if its not necessary. Yeah it may take me longer to get there, but I know I got there in the end through my own hard work.

I love the game though, its sparked an interest in WWII tanks and tank warfare.

Long time since I posted back here

I play with a few people who take the free to play approach as well - its just as much fun.

Its not really Pay to Win IMHO, cause the tanks you can buy are no were near as good as the in game tanks - they only make more credits.

I'm looking forward to World of Warships as well - though I really need to do a pc rebuild as my desktop needs a few new parts due to age wear and tear etc

Great game. I played it at my parents on my step-dad's laptop, my laptop can't run it properly :(

You dont pay to win - you pay to gain a vanishingly small advantage or to take shortcuts to where you could get for free.

I play it for free (almost, I use gold to dismount equipment). Its a great game. Havent played clan wars or anything yet, just solo it in randoms and gradually getting better.

    Hehe... MSE platoon anyone?

There are a few good guides around on the net for it. Worth reading the one on the cost of running higher tier tanks against what you will receive for a win/loss. Shows quite an interesting picture once you go above T6.

I have stuck with TDs after starting to play again about 6 weeks ago. Have bought (using free in game credits) a T9 JagdTiger but still play my T8 JP2 until I have enough experience built up to get the bigger gun for the Tiger (easier to deal damage with the 12.8 cm on the JP2 than it is with the Tiger stock gun).

I'm also soloing in randoms, but I wouldn't be completely against trying a small platoon game some night.

On a related note, did anyone manage to get a beta code for the Xbox version of WoT? Didn't myself, but have seen a few Youtube clips and it doesn't look to be much different, but was wondering whether there was any effect from lag etc.

I've been playing WOT for a while (I was in the beta, but didn't then play for ages), and it's fun.

All I've spent on it has been some money to get gold for a months premium (basically make money a little faster, and gain some more xp), and to buy some more garage slots.

The premium tanks tend to be dead ends, with no way to improve them from their starting position, other than by getting a better crew into them.
What they are reasonably good at, is giving you an idea of how such and such a tank might play (although I have heard some friends who play describe their premium tanks as a "****** waste of money"), or making some in game money a little faster so you can improve your non premium tanks.

It's a reasonably fun game, but can be absolutely infuriating when you consistently get stuck with idiot team mates, or thrown into games 2+ tiers above your level (I almost gave up on one tank line as it required me to use a "scout" tank to advance along it, with was not fun when you're a T4 tank thrown into T8 games, so in theory you can scout, in reality many of the T8 medium/TD's can be as fast as you, and much more suited to survive first contact).
