Morning GP and other adventuring yogurtees
I didn't realise the forum came back early so I'm well and truly behind on diaries.
When you've finalised your yogurt recipe please will you post it up for me? Nice and simple as I'm a simple soul.
I'm with you on the 'not changing the meal planner for change sake' With the art of substitution, of which you a master [or should that be mistress?] there will be plenty of unexpected variety.
Hope your early meeting goes well

Good Evening :hello:
Piq - how nice to see you. Thank you for stopping by - I appreciate it. I'm happy to put up the yoghurt recipe as it is now, 'coz it works for me. Then you can have a look at that version, and CUL8R's and 7 Week Wonder's versions and see what suits your needs. I'll get it sorted straight in my head and try to type it out in a succinct fashion - brevity not being my middle name
Beanie - I assume that your risotto goes a lovely ruby colour when you stir the beets in? I love beetroot, and courgettes too - used to grow masses on the allotment - loved having the yellow ones as well as the green.
Well, today has been an interesting day. Not just in weather terms, although that has been pretty spectacular too - always interesting when lightning is horizontal  I also had dealings with 3 people today who just couldn't be ars*d to do a good job, it wasn't their fault, no-one was in charge, nobody would own up to doing the job wrong......... I think the guy that finally sort of rectified the situation decided to take the path of least resistance to stem the earache. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Anyway, enough about that. We have just finished our dinner - which was indeed bobotie and rice. I haven't done a link, as I say, it is actually a meat dish. Plus there are as many ways of making it and ingredients combos as you can think of. If I can find reference to it - I know that my inspiration was the spice combo used in a book by a young chef focussing on S. African cooking - I shall add it in to this post.
Today has been a NSD :j I suppose it is easy when you don't really 'need' anything - but I'm grateful that no unexpected expenditure cropped up either. DP has declared the day bag attached to the bike a great success, so peace of mind and 'summat useful' achieved for £2.99.
I know that I usually end with my 'grateful for 3 things'. But I want to slightly diverge this evening and just express my gratitude for one thing - actually one group of people; they are the MSE Volunteer Board Guides.
I came across this post earlier.
I have to admit, that momentarily the computer monitor here at Greying Towers went a bit fuzzy - possibly due to the atmospheric effect of indoor rain fall.............................normal service, has now been resumed.
I'm sure that many folk on here (who've been MSE stalwarts for longer than me too) will of frequented the OS board and will of known Squeaky. I think I was just struck by how good - and quick - he always was at finding the right thread for people and his phenomenal knowledge of what was in the back catalogue of OS. And he did it all voluntarily, and clearly was keen to do his best for the good of the forum and, I guess, the site overall.
So, whilst 'Hug a board guide today' doesn't scan. And 'Bring a board guide to your bosom' might send out entirely the wrong message, I would like to take this opportunity, whilst I am still here and you are still here, to say to MSE Board Guides - I really appreciate the job that you do for me, for us. Thank you.

Thank you from me as well lovely Board Guides - we really appreciate you :T0 -
Board guides do a wonderful job & sometimes people are none too nice to them either.

Evening All
I've caught up again, thought forum would be down for longer than it was.
I had a yoghurt failure last week and before reporting back I wanted to try again. Another failure and another success - Onk*n does not work as a starter, don't know what they do to it!!!! S'bobs Basic does a really good job as a starter and as someone said before if left for a few days in the fridge it thickens more.
I have spent some time on researching yoghurt making and went off at a tangent to make some cheese - watch this space! I have been on a SHTF website and the link page I have given is about making yeast which I thought might be of interest to HM bread enthusiasts and any other info such as yoghurt and cheese making can be found in archives.
I've also been on the Tube looking at crochet patterns with a view to making things with my wool stash. Is anyone else interested in crafts?CUL8R0 -
Evening all,
I'm another one who was caught out by the forums coming back earlier than planned! I've been out socializing more than normal, with the result that I'm dead beat and planning a very early night!
Yoghurt: my best results seem to come when I use Rachels or Yeo Valley as a starter: I'm not certain it's anything to do with it being organic, but there's something special about them. I've heard about people keeping yoghurt starters going for years, but I've never managed more than about 4 generations before my yoghurt goes slimey. If anyone finds out more I'd love to know...
Cul8r I love wild yeast and have had a sourdough bread starter on the go for over two years now. I don't know what it says about the cleanliness of my kitchen that I managed to generate a starter just using flour and water without adding any fruit or veg:eek:
I'm very embarrassed to admit that I'd always assumed Squeaky was female - just shows I shouldn't make assumptions.
Cul8r - by a strange coincidence this weekend I just restarted a crochet waistcoat I'd abandonned for several months. It must be something in the air!
Is anyone else attempting Memory Girl's declutter 100 things in 10 days? It's only day 1 and I'm struggling after 7 items (or 8 if you count a pair of shoes as 2 things!)
That's quite enough wittering from me...
Have a good evening all0 -
Good Morning :hello:
I have just lost a post in the most bizzare fashion - it was like a power cut, but the computer monitor was still working - MSE disappeared though. Add on top of that I am running late because of things going 'bump' - or more specifically 'tap, tap, tap' in the night, then today is starting to be
I'll be back later this with a much better post - hopefully with the yoghurt recipe.
Thank you to everyone that has visited and commented on the thread in the meantime. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Good Evening :hello:
Well, so far, so good with the forum. Fingers crossed I can get a fair bit of wittering in now
Apologies for not responding better to posters this morning, you'll have to trust me that I was in the middle of doing so when the MSE page just disappeared off the screen and I was back to the desktop image. Most strange.
Firstly, though, I wonder if I might just do one thing. I would like to say;
:j:j:j WELL DONE :j:j:j
to Munchin - who has been popping in to this thread, and was able to claim a spot on the Debt Free Roll of Honour this morning. Congratulations on your significant achievement and thank you for stopping by.
Upsidedown Bear - bloomin' atmospherics eh?
Beanielou - well said.
CUL8R - I wonder what went wrong with the yoghurt. There isn't gelatine in that brand is there? I don't know why, but I remember reading that you were to avoid yog (as a starter) that had it in. Also, I read something about avoiding yoghurts that have more than 2 of the 'friendly' bacterias as it is used in commercial yog production to speed the process up, but is no good in the home kitchen. I'm probably way off the mark, but just thoughts rumbling through the space between my ears
And yes, I have after X amount of years finally been able to complete some crochet - 2 holly leaves and a snowflake thanks to Lucy over at Attic 24. Trouble is with crafts is that I'm a bit of a magpie and want to try too much
7 week wonder - that is interesting about the starter. You are confirming what I had heard elsewhere. Wonder what the secret is for keeping it going though?
I do need a sort out of shelves and cupboards, but it is not so much about flinging stuff, as just having it (much) tidier where it is stashed.
Thank you for commenting. I do appreciate it.
I'll be back shortly, hopefully with the yoghurt recipe.
