    Good Evening :hello:

    rtandon - loving the English/English translator :D If I've got this right - what your 'neighbours' call a 'bum-bag' had me in hysterics the first time I ever heard it...... it got compounded when I was in a vehicle with an 'mature gentleman' and his wife and he wanted to get into a parking space which a lady was dawdling past - he perfectly straight-faced - implored her to move her ***** a little faster.... :rotfl:

    We managed to get out for a walk this afternoon. Unfortunately, not a 'walk' walk like what EH had planned for today, because by the time we'd had lunch etc, it had turned grey and mizzly. However, we walked over to the high street and picked up a few YS'd bits in mrW and got spoken to in a very disdained manner by the M0untain Where?house shop assistant - who clearly thought that I was a pleb for asking how much some trainers were reduced to in the sale section, as they were not ticketed. Silly me, I was supposed to see that they were in the sale section for the convenience of the staff, as they were in fact full price, not on offer. Unlike any other item of footwear in that section. We left M0untain Where?house without purchasing anything :D Took several steps out of the shop along the street and found 10p *roadkill* :j First for an age and possibly karma?? :rotfl:

    We've just had dinner and I was pleased with the 'new' recipe I tried out. For avid watchers of Guy Fieri on DDD, 'Scrapple' will mean something to you. I recently found a recipe for 'Veggie Scrapple' - which given scrapple is a virtual meat-fest of leftover meat made into a meatloaf and then fried - piqued my interest. The actual 'loaf' is not dissimilar to a bean loaf (rather than a nut loaf) that I make. However, I was intrigued to use cornmeal, as I'd not done so before. The loaf turned out well - I made it earlier, as you let it cool and then slice it and fry it. Usually, it has to be said, in a heap of butter (no, Piq - you did not just read that sentence, it said 'frylight' :rotfl:)

    So, this evening, I made up some buttery mash, steamed some swede, carrots, cauli and broccoli and made some tomato/red pepper sauce and served the veggie scrapple with it. Picture here;

    018_zps45b29783.jpg

    The pepper sauce is not in a separate bowl to be 'poncy' - I figured you could see the scrapple better if I left it off :D I was pleased with the flavour of the scrapple (even though I fried it in oil) and I think that you could come up with any variety of flavour combos. In the original recipe, it used black-eyed beans - I only had a small tub, so I added in some haricot too. In the recipe I will link to, you can see that they used white kidney beans. Also, I had no faith that the loaf would bind, so I blitzed some of my beans with the hand blender - the consistency was good. If I was leaving it overnight to set, I may well have a go at leaving the beans whole as per the recipe. When I made the scrapple, I had no red pepper, so there is none in the dish, but it is in the original recipe - the red pepper for the sauce was bought whilst we were out.

    If you'd like a go at making veggie scrapple, HERE is a close copy of the version I used (they certainly credit the same source). Either way up, veggie or meat version, I reckon this is a good dish - I would of thought kids may like it, particularly if there was ketchup on hand........

    Also, when I was baking earlier, I made the alternative version of 'broonie' or orcadian ginger cake. This version was a much more batter like consistency - I have high hopes for it...... But I'll leave the cutting a day or two, as I'm sure it'll only improve :D Picture here, simply because I could take it in daylight :j

    So, today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for adopting a relaxed pace - everything that we set out to do today, has been done. And we've set aside niggles about tasks that can't be completed due to circumstances beyond......

    that disdain rarely appears in my repertoire - and that I can just walk away from folk who think that it is a trait to be proud of..........

    for recipe sharers - thank you :A

    Thank you so very much for popping in today - for taking me down memory lane, and for making me giggle and for joining in. I appreciate it. Greatly.

    See y'all later.

  • Good Morning :hello:

    Start of the week once more!

    Well, today I will definitely aim for a NSD. I was thinking how when you are repaying debt - or saving, how hard it is for the days 'inbetween' payday to stay focused. After all, on payday you do all the shuffling of cash around to your budget pots, to your debts or to your savings pots and then that's it..... until next payday, or your lottery numbers come up :T For me, I've tended to lose focus in the 'interim' period. So that's why I'm really beginning to concentrate on the NSD's, because I am pretty sure that this is where I have been frittering any additional money. OK, so it's difficult to go overboard with a total budget of £160 - but let's face it, there are things I need to buy from that money, so it should be available - not frittered away on 'pop & crisps' (I don't buy those things really, but I must of been buying something :D)

    Dinner this evening will be Harira, a lentil and chickpes soup/stew - that I make very frequently.

    Right, I'd best get up and at 'em. Have a great day all - I'm gonna try bag me one :D

    Thank you for popping by and reading. I very much appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

    Sorry rtandon! I love the joy and laughter on greying's diary, only problem is that my sense of humour is smutty to say the least :o To my credit, I did hold back on the 'baps' for ages :D

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Ah, well. 'tas been a funy old day......

    On the whole, it has been great and I feel really blessed. But do you know what dear reader? I am trying very hard not to fall into the foulest of funks. Why? Because yet again a couple of people (in RL) have taken it upon themselves to shove their noses into our lifestyles and query, query query, why we do this? and why don't we do that? and why haven't you got this? and why do you not buy/spend/fritter money like we do? ..........and on, and on, and on.....................

    I am trying, ever so hard, not to give into feelings of monumental p*ssedoffness.

    I'm not too sure that it is working :o

    In other news.......... today I can legitimately claim a NSD. There was nothing that we needed, so I didn't spend a dime - quelle horreur! Nothing to cheer myself up, nothing to re-inforce that I am *worth it*, nothing to impress the socks off of anyone else....... But, dear reader - and I know that you will understand the significance of this, that does mean that I have hit double figures for NSD's :j:j:j

    I got given a jar of HM chutney - we love it and the person is so kind and gives it too us because they know that we do, and that we will use it. :j

    Piq has reminded me of a quote that I found - wonder if I can 'shoe-horn' it into my siggie line?

    Dinner this evening was harira - and for goodness sakes don't tell anyone, but it was partly *recycled* lentil soup from yesterday's lunch, with a few more bits and pieces added - including the zest and juice of a lemon that I got from mrW for 15p YS'd. It was filling, tasty and the lemon was beautifully ripe and gave it a lovely zestyness :D And yep, I don't think it did cost much to make, but it tasted blooming lovely, so no complaints from team Greying.

    So, today, more than ever, I am grateful for these 3 things;

    for the generous gift of HM produce - thank you we appreciate it. *slurp* :p

    for the sight of hazel catkins in the sunshine - inexplicably beautiful.

    for experiencing *sufficient*, for appreciation of *enough*, for knowing *generosity* and for my life as it is - I'm not interested in having it any other way.

    Thank you so much for dropping by today. For reading, for taking the time out of your day and for being so supportive. I never take you for granted - and know that you spur me on each day :D
