hi I've got a hsbc bank account at the the mo, I've just transferred the £250 o/d to 0% egg card and now want to ditch the pants interest rates and change to a different account. I have a few problems deciding which one though for the following reasons...
1) I'm 20, 21 in August
2) my (maternity) wages go into our joint account so its only child benefit and child tax credits which go into this account, approx £200 a month
So I'm having trouble finding thats not just 0.10% interest, also a lot of bank accounts I've seen are for over 21's so should I wait til after my birthday? Any help/recommendations please??

try halifax they do a good one and don't think their is a limit on it. also their basic account has quite a good rate. would your employer split your payment to two accounts which you can then transfer across to the joint account. this would let you take advantage of better rates. Have a look at moneysupermarket etc should help you decide. kind regards

Hi there...I would probably wait until after your birthday and also until back at work as most bank accounts pay paltry interest if you are not banking at least £1000 p/m....but others will be along shortly that will maybe know of some decent accounts..0

thats part of my problem too, once my maternity pay ends my wages are going right down, like only about £40-50 per week at most so still really low, not enough for the £1000/month deals. our joint account is nationwide flexaccount so i'm wondering whether i should just get one of those for me as the interest is 0.25% for less than £500 being paid in which is better than the 0.10% i get at hsbc?0 -
I'd try Alliance and Leicester Premier 21 account .. offering a whacking 10% gross interest ... http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/currentaccounts/index.asp?page=premier21&ct=curracchome
You only need to pay in £250 and this doesn't have to be in one go ... just over the course of a month.
Plus, if you do go ahead ... visit the referrals board for the 'Refer A Friend' scheme ... I did that and earned myself nearly £100 for opening an account .. (sadly, not this one as I'm well over 21!!):happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove

I saw that one, would they still let me have it tho as I'm almost 21? I was trying to find out what they do when you're too old for the account but couldnt find anything on their website??0 -

Yes, the age range is between 16-21 .. so you can apply right up until the day before your 22nd birthday I would imagine.:happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove
