I have stopped drinking instant coffee, and only have ground coffee now. I drink a lot less coffee.
Every now and again when i have made a lot of savings I get maybe £15 worth of stuff from waitriose - 'posh' ingredients, or the merchant gourmet, and they last ages, and make for a more interesting store cupboard.
Today I saw some info on a very interesting olive oil, and in a shop I know it is £5. as i need some olive oil I am going to get this out of next week's £20 grocery budget. Its more costly than usual, but Its got a VERY interesting history, and it supports a good cause.

Me too. I probably have less than 1 cup a day, but I'd rather have that than 2 or 3 cups of instant (Memorably described by Frankie in Coronation Street as "a few e numbers away from gravy"). I only drink Illy or Lavazza & they're not particularly cheap. Have tried others, including Ikea's own, but they just don't come close.

Have you tried the coffee in Whitards. Great quality and you can get it in bean or ground version, they'll grind it for you in the shop, so even fresher. They'll sometimes let you have a sample of different types to try out as well.

Also don't forget to keep ground coffee in the freezer, it stores better and lasts longer.

There's a little shop about 9 miles away from me that just sells coffee and swiss chocolates. Towards the back of the shop he has a few benches and tables for people to sit and drink coffee, due to the seating arrangement everybody talks to each other and the philosophical discussions held there daily are a treat. Due to the littlie being at home I can only pop in to buy coffee to drink at home now. This will become one of my treats again when she starts school, sitting drinking coffee and discussing the meaning of life :D

Lidl ground coffee is excellent. I use the espresso for my, errmmm, espresso machiine and the normal ground coffee for the cafetiere. I'll need to look up the prices, but IIRC the espresso is super cheap, compared with other supermarkets.

Not everything in Lidl is good quality - the tea is dreadful - but the coffee is really impressive. If you ever shop there, try it out.

Agree with everyone about ground coffee,I've also found Lidls to be good. Don't like tea bags and Lidl don't do loose tea so haven't tried their tea. But, as far as coffee is concerned, I want quality AND quantity, please. :D

When you say keep it in the freezer do you mean both opened and unopened packs? I store ours in the cupboard till it is opened and then keep it in the fridge, but we rarely drink it all before it is past its 'three weeks after openeing' date.

I have almost given up coffee but am going to start buying coffee beans instead of ready ground or instant. You can then ensure that the beans are good quality and they taste much better freshly ground in a food processor. All sorts of crap ends up in some ground coffees.

A bit of extra hassle but worth it if you are not drinking much coffee anyway.
