Can I keep it?

I ordered a bin,and when it came it was bashed. I phoned the company and they were very good. They said would sent another one and the man would pick up the bashed one. The new one arrived two days later but the delivery man (courier as opposed to the company) would not take the bashed one. I would quite like to keep the lid of the bashed one as it is fine and that is what broke on the one I am replacing(after maybe 8 years). So it would be good to have a spare. How long do I need to keep bashed bin before I can say to company if they ever come to collect it - "oh I threw it away".

A few years ago i ordered a dyson from a catalogue company. For some strange reason the thing wouldnt stay upright! So i phoned them and they said they would refund me, which they did. But they never came back for the dyson, and i still have it! They did say the courier would pick it up, it sat in the box for ages, its mine now!!!

If i was you I would give them a call and explain to them that the courier wouldnt take the item.
I think they will let you keep it because its not going to be worth them sending the courier back out to collect a faulty item.
Its always worth asking, youve nothing to loose really as they have replaced it straightaway
