Problem with work issue

I worked for a company which required me to undergo a medical test. I was only at work for 2 weeks as I had to leave the company due to family/personal problems. Adequate notice was given however the medical test was booked but as soon as I gave my notice, the medical was cancelled (3 days before test) . Ok I finished from work, 2 weeks later, I got a letter saying I need to pay for the medical. I was told because the incur the cost I still need to pay. But it was cancelled but no mention at the time about it. It was supposed to be free if working for the company but since it was cancelled not sure why they are charging me plus it dont mention on their contract anything about chareges. what do I do?

Who cancelled the medical? If they cancelled, and there is no wording in your contract to say that you have to pay for it, then don't. Double check the contract, as it may refer to the employee handbook for example or other documentation that may need to be read in conjunction with the contract.
I would stick to your guns but speak to the HR department as to why they think you should be paying for it. Ask them for proof. The cost of a medical is minimal to most companies, so you may find if you start making a fuss then they will find it too much hassle to pursue you for it.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
Have you rung the company and asked why you have been charged given that you were told it was cancelled.
It seems odd that they can charge you for something that
a: they required (I assume it wasn't optional) and
b: didn't happen7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
I would ask since the company booked the appointment, and then cancelled it how can you be liable for any cost?0

Don't pay this...it is up to the company to pay it and they shouldn't be chasing you. Stick to your guns as someone else has said and simply don't pay it. As a business owner myself, this is just one of the joys of running a business employing people...you incur costs with employees coming and going and you just have to live with it...they are just trying it on to be honest! Don't worry and don't pay (even if it is referred to in t & c's/staff handbook). What can they do to you if you don't pay??? Not much!0
