Advice on how to adjust a default please?

I fully accept my default due to me putting the creditor onto a DMP, but i have 4 defaults, 2 disappear off my credit report end of this year, 1 March next year, but another not till oct 2015.
Capital one were great throughout the DMP, but i have noticed that for 2.5 yrs they marked my credit score with 3,4 5 and the 6 markers for 2 and a half years rather than defaulting me. Which means that default will stay on 2 years longer than the 1 ending this Oct. All of these accounts were on the same DMP so cant see why 1 is so far away.
We are hopefully off to Florida in 2015 which was my Debt free dream, but Car rentals, Hotel night and medical reasons all need a credit card. I have no chance of getting this card for all these deposit swipes i need to do with this default on!
Can anyone help with a template letter to adjust it to a fair time they should of defaulted me, or whether this sort of thing works over the phone?
Thank you

I don't believe there is a template letter.
You would need to write to them and quote the relevant sections of the ICO guidance on filing default notices.
State that you believe they should have defaulted you within 6 months of entering the DMP and that by entering the default at such as late stage you feel they have unfairly treated you and you will be penalised on your credit file for longer than someone who had made no effort to repay their debts.
Ask them to backdate or remove the default.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Fab thank you, tbh I would be happy to not use a credit card out there, but as I am the only driver it supposedly needs to be in my name

Will get writing and see what they say, will have a nose on these forums to find the sections I need to quote them too

Hello - I have found Capital One to be very helpful - I contacted them because although I understood why they had defaulted me, the date of the default was a year later than it should have been - similar to yours. I did have the Default Notice and so was able to get them to change the date to an earlier one so all my defaults will drop off roughly at the same time - suggest giving them a call in the first instance - they even wrote to me to confirm what they had done and amended my credit file very quickly0

I used a UK debit card to hire a car and pay for hotels - I don't have a credit card and still manage to do all those things!
I would definitely try getting it sorted, but don't panic if they won't play ball immediately - a debit card should see you right. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Well I wrote a letter asking for them to correctly mark my credit file with an earlier default and I received a letter back saying all the information stated was correct! I wasn't happy but never got around to writing back to them, so was looking like the default would stay till late 2015.
Anyway in September I received another letter from them randomly to say they are sorry, they have re checked my details and within 48hrs my account will fully be removed from my credit report!
RESULT!! My free noodle report was out today and Capital one are no where to be seen
I have another 2 defaults going by November and my last one going in March next year. I may have a nice looking report soon lol.
Just thought I would update, just so people who are thinking about writing in to let them know that its really worth it.0 -
