    Hi midnight

    Just checking your ok hun?
  • Thanks Zippy, not been around much since the weekend. I've been seconded to another business for the next couple of weeks and it's a round trip of over 100 miles so I've been up and out early and not getting home until quite late at night - by which time I'm exhausted. Worst of it all is, I'm working in a very open office so I can't even get five minutes peace to sneak on MSE - boo!

Debts are still in hand and I'm sticking to my budget as much as possible - of course it means more expense for the next couple of weeks with all the extra mileage etc, but I'll get that all back (eventually).

The non smoking kind of went to the wall slightly over the weekend and I haven't even attempted to try to stop again :o but I will once things are back to normal and I'm safely back in my own environment.

    Hi :hello:

    Glad your ok :)

Can understand you leaving the stop smoking for a bit, if you're under more stress, no point making it more difficult for yourself.

    speak soon

  • Well, this has been a strange week to say the least...the fact that I've been seconded to another business for the next couple of weeks means that I haven't had a chance to catch up with all the happenings on MSE...it's just not good enough :naughty:

However, I've spent most of the morning catching up on housework and bits and bobs, and now I've finally got round to opening up my mail...got a letter from Sainsbury's Bank today (that's the one who offered me £124 in reclaimed bank charges - I wrote back to say thanks, but no thanks...) and they have offered the full £250 that I originally claimed, so an excellent result :D...

I've finally got round to doing my snowball calculator and organising a spreadsheet and plan of action for the rest of the debts...whether or not it all pans out remains to be seen, but at least I'm actually facing up to the debts now, which is half the battle!

Ebay has completely gone to the wall this last few weeks and I really want to get back on track with that today - still got loads of things to put on.

I've calculated that I need to make an extra £50 every week if I'm going to keep on track with the debt busting any more than this would be an added bonus.

Fab news on the bank charges, and even better news that you have done the snowball and have a plan of action in place.

I find it very motivating and it certainly spurs me on to raise that extra amount each week/month.

I hope your weekend is less stressful than the rest of your week seems to have been.

  • I love the snowball calculator. It's helped me see exactly where I am at the moment and, even better, exactly where I'll be next month/year etc.

I think it will certainly spur me on to raise a bit extra each month. Just have to make a monumental effort to spur my DH on and try to get him a bit more motivated with the whole DFW thing....he's still not 100% on board which makes it difficult.

We've got DS and his family staying this weekend, but once they've gone home tomorrow I'm planning to nail DH's feet to the floor and keep him there until he can see the benefit of the snowball and the spreadsheet etc.

It would actually be a huge step forward if he could only see the fact that it's all the little things that make the difference...like not spending £££'s on things like newspapers and filled rolls  ....you've gotta love them, haven't you?

When I was trying to show this to my OH, who says he is easily baffled by money things, I gave examples such as:

one extra hour's overtime a week will reduce our debt free date by.......
one extra shift a month will reduce our debt free date by.........
not having a takeaway once a month will reduce our debt free date by.......

Some of the things I came up with were pretty small, others a bit bigger, but once he could see the numbers in the snowball calculator and see that it made sense, he had a mini flickering of the old lightbulb.

  • Thanks Hypno, I'll try that with my OH...I think at the moment he's just a bit overwhelmed with the sheer size of the debt - he has about the same amount of debt as I do, but because he more or less keeps on top of it I don't think he's really had his lightbulb moment yet.

To be fair though, he has seen me making an indent into my debts and he's now paying more attention....so I think the snowball calculator might just open his eyes a bit

I'll def try your approach though and let you know how I get on!

  • Does anyone else feel that this is a lazy day...or is it just me? I've been up since half past seven and so far all I've done is empty the dishwasher and do a bit of washing :o ...spent most of my day on here (mind you, it's much more interesting here that in the real world, don't you agree?)

Well, I promised myself I would photograph loads of stuff to put on ebay, but I'm waiting for the batteries for the camera to recharge (OMG, what an excuse!!!) So, in the meantime I'm going to haul myself off my lazy butt and go and help OH who is in the greenhouse doing goodness knows what.

So far I've had a NS day - mainly due to the fact that I'm feeling too lazy today to venture out. I was determined not to spend anything for the next two days, but I discover I've run out of potatoes and the colliewobble (border collie) is completely out of dog food, so a quick trip to the supermarket is the order of the day.

Hope eveyone has a good day!
