  • Woke up yesterday with a rotten cold and felt absolutely miserable for the whole day. But dosed myself up with hot lemon, painkillers and an early night, so feeling much better today!

Got a letter from Capital One saying that they had refunded £64 to my account for the unfair charges - great, apart from the fact that my charges came to £181, so I wrote to them today and said thank you, but what about the rest?

Same letter from Sainsbury's Bank offering £124, which is half the amount I tried to claim - they hadn't actually credited this to my account though, so wrote a letter to them saying thanks, but no thanks.....

OMG look at me, thousands of pounds in debt and I'm refusing money! Still, I'm trying to be strong and tough. I'm thinking that any money I manage to claw back from them is going to come off the debt that I owe them, so every penny helps.

  • Had a quick look at my bank account today. Even with the ebay money going in, I'm still going to be about £90 short of the £309 I need to pay off T-Mobile by the time I get paid again. I get paid on the 21st, but I would really like to have another bill paid off by then.

I'll have a look tonight for more stuff to put on ebay - it's a half price listing day tomorrow, so that will help.

I've had a good look at the budget for next month and I've cut the food bill down to £160 for the month (well, really four weeks, because I get paid every four weeks). I've got loads of food in the freezer so we'll work on that for the next couple of weeks, then I'll shop according to the menu plan I work out.........

Wow, who would have guessed that Little Miss Scatty could be so organised :rotfl:

Mind you, it's easy to say all this but quite another to stick to it. I'm off to the OS board to get some ideas for DFW menu. Then I'm going to look out stuff for ebaying....

I think my new mantra should be "I will not go on MSE until I've completed all my tasks" :D

  • ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!! I've just stepped on the scales and discovered I've put on another four pounds!!

Now I'm totally fed up!!!!! My clothes are already far too tight and my work uniform is stretched to its limit and I just don't want to move up to a bigger size. :o

Why is it that, as far as I'm concerned, lack of £££'s = depression = eating = lbs in weight -

Fed up now and still feeling crappy from the cold, so going away to have a hot lemon, painkillers and going to bed.

Tomorrow I'm going to go on a strict diet and just to make sure I stick to it I'm going to add my weight loss to my signature - how sad is that?

  • Quick update - stepped on the scales again this morning and it's official - I'm four pounds heavier than I was last week  so, strict diet started this morning. Done my shopping budget for the rest of the month and for the following four weeks. There's not much room in there for fancy diet foods, so I'm not going to stress about it, I'll just eat smaller portions and excercise more :o

DH checked his account this morning and the bank has credited the reclaimed charges money to his account - now all I have to do is stop him squandering any of it until we get a chance to chuck it at the debt! Might just cut the fingers off him so he can't punch in his pin number :D

Colds much better this morning so feeling much cheerier. Off to the post office in a mo to post the last of the ebay stuff. Got a pile of stuff at home all ready to be listed tonight - BTW it's a 10p listing day today on ebay!

Have a great day everybody, x

  • Well, after all my good intentions I never got anything listed on ebay last night. We got unexpected visitors early on in the evening and no matter how DFW I am, I couldn't bring myself to say to them "Would you mind just amusing yourselves for an hour while I go and pop all my [STRIKE]junk [/STRIKE](for junk read quality second hand items) on ebay?"

So, never achieved very much last night. Oh, and they brought a gorgeous cake with them so the diet went clean out the window :o Ah, well, onwards and upwards....

  • Well, it's been a strange weekend so far. DH paid £3700 towards one of his debts using the reclaimed bank charges money :T At least that gives us a bit of a fresh start with them.

Have spoken to DH at length and we've discussed the option of selling the house and clearing off all our debts and just starting again. To be honest, on Friday it seemed like the best thing to do, but over the weekend I think we've both had a change of heart. After all, we've worked hard for this house and it's our home. (We reckon we've probably got about four months to turn things around completely before we would have to really seriously look at that option).

So, for the next four months we're just going to have to step up the pace quite a bit.

I've got my menus worked out for the next two weeks and as from Thursday when I get paid again, I've got a budget of £160 for four weeks food, including cleaning stuff. (I've been over to the OS board and hopefully I can stick to this budget  ) It just means tightening our belts completely.

Oh, well, we'll see what next week brings.

    Hi Midnight

Good luck with the new budget. :T Food shopping is my downfall its so easy to waste huge amounts of money in the supermarket isn't it.

    Hows ebay going?
  • Hi Zippy,

Supermarkets are normally my downfall. As long as I make a list and stick to it then I'll be fine. My biggest problem is seeing things I think I need - can never remember what I've got in the cupboards - and I usually end up buying it "just in case". But I'm going to stick rigidly to the menu and the shopping list for the next four weeks to see if it makes a difference finacially.

Ebay's not gone well at all - I never got anything listed last week and weekends are pretty hopeless for trying to do anything like that - I usually have the family staying over the weekend (DS, DIL and grandaughter) as well as DD and DH. It's always lovely to see them all but it does get a bit hectic at times  I usually take myself and the dog (border collie - affectionately known as the Collie Wobble :D) off for a long walk in the meadow not far from our house. It's nice and quiet there and I get time to myself ;)

I'll start ebaying in ernest tomorrow.

    How's things going with you?

  • Payday today - didn't get as much as normal because I was off for a weeks holiday and missed the overtime, ah well.....

Had hoped to have T Mobile paid off by this time, but things went a bit pear shaped this week. I put money into the bank to make sure I had enough to cover my Direct Debits. As well as putting in cash I also paid in some cheques that I had been sent for ebay stuff and I didn't allow enough time for the cheques to clear. :o So, upshot is a direct debit for £45 didn't get paid, bank wrote to me to explain why it didn't get paid and, no doubt, will charge me £35 for the priviledge of pointing out that I'm a complete numpty.

I'm still going to pay T Mobile off in full though - hopefully tomorrow - and I'll update sig then.

Another bill for £62.97 suddenly materialised from nowhere - an old debt I had totally forgotten about (no wonder I'm in such a finacial mess!) so I'll get that paid tomorrow as well.

The weight loss is a complete washout this week - I haven't lost an ounce. I've decided to weigh myself in Boots every Saturday - not very DFW I know, but it only costs 30p and it's cheaper than joining a slimming club. lol
