  • It's not often that I get the computer to myself at this time of night - wow! It feels funny - it's still daylight outside!

Well, our acceptance letter is signed, sealed and winging its way to the bank.

I'm going to sit down tomorrow if I get a chance and go over all DH debt and see what's the best way to deal with it all. It's the only time we'll ever have such a large sum of money to throw at the debts and we have to make the most of it - I'm terribly scared we fall into the trap of thinking we've got money to blow on rubbish so I'm going to persuade DH to chuck it all at the debt as soon as possible! Whew!

Had a quick glance at my figures today and there's a chance I might be able to pay off T-Mobile providing the stuff sells on ebay and I don't touch any of the money I've got in the bank. I'll be over the moon if I can do it - that would mean I'd paid off 2 bills in one month

Get paid on the 21st this month, so providing I keep out of supermarkets I just might be able to do this. Fingers crossed

Hi midnight, Wow you are doing an amazing job already - well done :T

Thank you for you kind comments.

It is really good to hear your enthusiasm, it is refreshing to hear.

I remember what it was like when we started off and how great it felt ot see the debt's going down.

To be honest we are getting to the "how much longer is this going to take now" sigh

We have had to move your debt free date back from april - washing machine decided to pack up on us, and hubby worked on me till i agreed on new sofas (in the sale)

To be honest I am so fed up about it now. Just want it finished. I did so much overtime at work that the kids forgot who i was  and we have cut back so much that I am really not sure how we have managed. Watching EVERY penny and NO-ONE having ANY treats.

Cut right back on christmas presents too. Kids had £50 each (3 of them) and hubby and I went without completly.

Really looking forward to this christmas though as we CAN spend on each other.

Also our anniversary on 5th Sept (10 years) we have never had the money to celebrate it once, so this will be a BIG night for us :j

Please keep us updated as to how your getting on. I am usually around late too but not when I am on Days as I have to get up at 5.30am  will keep updated though
  • Thanks Silkglade - you've done such a fantastic job at clearing your debts. You and your hubby should feel proud of what you've achieved. You certainly deserve a BIG night out on the 5th Sept!!

And as for washing machines - mine packed up a couple of weeks ago and after DH had it in bits for a couple of hours we finally decided to call in a guy to have a look at it - he fixed it in a couple of minutes and it cost me £59 - ah, well, it's only money

Hi Midnight - did you and DH decide what to put the charges refund into yet? I'm going to apply for my charges from HSBC and it'll just go straight off my overdraft as I'm in a DMP so I don't think they'll let me have a cheque somehow :)

Doing fabulously btw! :) I love that feeling when you have the money to pay off a bill. We have to pay the car tax this month and I know it'll be alright as I've been saving that £5 a month for a while now :)

  • Hi Sea, good luck with your charges. It's a whole load of hassle but worth it in the end if it helps towards getting you debt free!!

Well, I sat on Friday and had a good look at DH debts - and to be honest it's quite frightening! He has roughly about the same amount of debt as I do. I think the best thing he could do would be just to throw the majority of it at one of his credit cards (highest APR) and use the rest to catch up with payments he's missed.

A few weeks ago I started trying to tackle the joint debt, but to be honest, because DH is not quite on board with the whole DFW thing yet, I decided just to start with my own debts and lead by example :rotfl:

So, quick update - the ebay stuff all finished over the weekend and after I'd paid the ebay fees, the Paypal fees  (don't like Paypal fees) and calculated for the postage, I've just transferred £200 into my bank account. Which I'm really chuffed about! Hopefully, I'll list more stuff tomorrow and with a bit of luck, by the end of the month I'll have enough to pay off T-Mobile.

Can't believe the amount of junk I have in this house - and I'm eternally grateful for ebay!! and all the people out there who happen to think my junk is worth buying lol!

The only good thing about being a spendaholic is you'll always have loads of "stuff" to sell when you're up to your eyes in debt :o

That is good isn't it?! I had loads to sell - I ended up sorting a spreadsheet where I would put in the total selling price then minu all the fees, starting and final, paypal fees and then postage costs and then I'd have the actual profit - for somethings it'd only be about 38p but then when it was all added up it ended up being loads which was good :)

    Good luck with the selling.

  • That sounds like a good idea Sea. If I get time I'll maybe have a bash at sorting out some sort of spreadsheet.

I’ve been inspired by so many people on this site - Immoral Angel, Hypno, Sea78, SS

To be even mentioned alongside those other names is truly a great insult. :)
