Midnight's DFW Diary

I went out one night with this friend and some others and we sat there comparing our feedback scores and how quickly we had run them up like it was something to be proud of
I don't go on there much now as the temptation is still there to fill my watched list. I had a thing for buying sooty videos after my youngest asked for some a couple of weeks ago, but i've pulled myself together again
How old are yours? my 15 year old DD usually hogs the computer on MSN.0 -
Sorry Ziggy, I got cut off in my prime the other night! The computer just shut down and refused point blank to fire up again. Thankfully, it seems to be behaving itself now - poor thing probably just needed a well deserved rest. lol
Well, this has been a very strange day to say the least, and a strange start to my DFW journey. I worked out that by the time I’d paid all my bills and left money in the bank to cover the direct debits I would have the grand total of £8.57 left.
So I broke into the £2 tin this afternoon and discovered I had £94 in there. I banked £90 and started off a new tin with the £4 that was left - I got another £2 in my change later so that means I have £6 in the tin already!
Went into town and paid the Community Tax and something towards the arrears from last year. I managed to pay off a bill in full today - what a great feeling it was! Even though I was only left with a couple of pounds in my purse, I still felt a great sense of achievement actually paying off a bill in full…
(Funny thing this frugal business though. I parked the car in a free car park just outside the town centre and had to walk to the Council Office to pay the Community Tax. After I’d done all this I suddenly had the urge to pee and actually grudged the 20p it cost me). OMG I’m turning into a monster…
The stuff on ebay is starting to sell so, hopefully, by the end of the week I should have a bit of money in my Paypal account - I just have to bank it quick before I get tempted to wander round the ebay site saying “Oooh, I’ve always wanted one of those…”
But the VERY BEST NEWS OF ALL - got home after work and DH had got a letter from the bank offering him £3357.22 in reclaimed bank charges!!!! Soooo relieved about that - it means that he can catch up with the arrears on his debts and hopefully get a fresh start. :j
Good luck to anyone who is in the process of reclaiming their bank charges - keep going and don’t give up. The relief of actually having a bit of extra money to help out is beyond words.
So, all in all, it’s been a fantastic day and I’m absolutely determined to clear off all my debts as soon as possible.Debt £171000 - Current Debt £168883Between Oct 08 and Apr 09 Pay off £12k = £2117/£12000£2 Savings Pot = £80 -
Midnight well done :T
What a great day, nice when you get them arn't they
Over £3K back in bank charges coming off your debt in one go is going to feel fantastic  0 -
Aww, thanks Zippy,
I don't often get days like this, so I'm gonna make the most of it.Debt £171000 - Current Debt £168883Between Oct 08 and Apr 09 Pay off £12k = £2117/£12000£2 Savings Pot = £80 -
Oh, he thinks I'm completely insane. He wasn't convinced when I first told him about MSE and Martin's advice to claim back bank charges, but he has to grovel now:rotfl:Debt £171000 - Current Debt £168883Between Oct 08 and Apr 09 Pay off £12k = £2117/£12000£2 Savings Pot = £80

Sorry Midnight I deleted that post i thought it sounded a bit odd asking if your husband got excited, I was going to change the wording

Mine doesn't ask much, but he doesn't get it, if I say i've paid off £500 this month he's yes but theres still loads to go, could kick him sometimes
Think only another DFW can understand how these little things matter. 0 -
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I didn't even notice - just shows how into this DFW business I am
No, my DH is the same, he doesn't see the fact that it's all the little things that help - like taking a packed lunch to work, or snapping up the half price goodies in Asda or Tesco.
I don't really think he's had his lightbulb moment yet, so it's kinda difficult to get on board with something like this when you're not really committed to it.
He's still doing the ostrich act at the moment - @rse up and head in the sand!
Mind you, I could always give him a good kick up the @rse the next time he sticks his head in the sand

I gotta go, I have someone coming at 8.30 in the morning and I am not ready, got to tidy up or its going to be

Perhaps see you tomorrow night? we must be the only 2 with insomnia!0 -
Midnight, fantastic result on the bank charges, you must be sooo pleased. I haven't been around at midnight for a couple of days, as the baby has started falling asleep earlier (hurray...) but then waking up for a 3am feed (boo...) so I've been having to try and get some sleep whenever I can
.
My hubby thought I was insane too when I first started saying I didn't want us to be in debt any more, and wanted to get it all paid off. He's fully on board now though, although he's still rubbish with money! Hope your oh comes round to the idea soon."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Thanks Snaggles, yes I'm over the moon about the bank charges - all thanks to MSE - I would never have had the confidence to even attempt anything like that without the help and support of all the wonderful people on here! Thank you!! Thank you!!
Sorry to hear your little one's sleep pattern is all to pot - I've got a four month old grandaughter who is doing exactly the same thing just now! She was sleeping through the night like an angel, but I reckon she thought her mum and dad were looking far too refreshed and cheery in the morning so she's back to waking up at 3am (aren't they great?).
Completely off the track and you'll probably think I'm daft, but do you know that a lot of babies love helium filled balloons? not the latex ones - they might pop and give them a fright - the foil ones with the pictures of Winnie the Pooh and Noddy etc.
GD started teething really early and was in a lot of distress - my poor DIL couldn't get a minutes peace, so I bought GD a foil balloon hoping it would take her mind off the teeth business. The effect was amazing - she clocked the balloon and stopped screaming immediately and she was absolutely fasinated by it. All we had to do was put next to her moses basket and make it wave about and she would lie there for ages gurgling and laughing....
Might be worth a try when you get to that stage that you really, really just want a couple of minutes peace and quite :rotfl:Debt £171000 - Current Debt £168883Between Oct 08 and Apr 09 Pay off £12k = £2117/£12000£2 Savings Pot = £80
