bit of info on my rights to sick pay.

Hi. So I started a new job after being unemployed for a few months. On my third day in the new job I got a splinter in my finger that went in very deep- So deep that it infected my tendon an had to be operated on. I am going to be off work for a few weeks at least.
As I only started, Am I entitled to sick pay? (with a note from my GP of course)
Its worth mentioning that I haven't signed any contract in this job.
Its not in the accident book either.

I spoke to my boss today to keep him up to date and all he said was that there's nothing he can do about it and to come back when I can.
No mention of any payment.
If he refuses to pay me sick pay, what other options do I have?
I'm guessing I can't go on the dole as I am unfit to work. Is there some sort of temporary disability I can claim?

Any help is very much appreciated.

As you have not received 8 weeks pay yet you may need to get an ssp1 form off your boss.
    You won’t qualify if you:
    • have received the maximum amount of SSP (28 weeks)
    • have taken 3 years or more ‘linked periods’ of sickness - where 4 or more days of sickness happen within 8 weeks of each other
    • are getting Statutory Maternity Pay
You can still qualify if you started your job recently and you haven’t received 8 weeks’ pay yet. Ask your employer to find out more.

This should be recorded. Ask that it is. Such as details of what happened, when, action taken at the time, witnesses.

It needs to be in the accident book and probably reported to the HSE under RIDDOR as you have been unable to carry out your normal duties for more than 7 days. If you can't get sick pay sadly you probably need to sue your employer so their insurer picks up the bill.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
