Monsoon wedding dress alterations

Just bought a wedding dress from Monsoon for just under £150. It's really pretty and I'm hopeful that it will fit me when it arrives later this week!
However, it's floor length on the 5'10" model and I'm only 5'0" so I will need it shortening... by quite a lot!
How can I find someone to alter this dress to fit? Do you think it's worth contacting local bridal shops to ask if they will do it or can recommend someone?

I was in a similar situation at the beginning of the year. I bought a beautiful dress from Debenhams and it needed shortening by a few inches. I rang a local bridal shop and they were more than happy to alter it for me even though I'd bought it elsewhere.
Its definitely worth ringing round shops in your local area.0 -
instead of going specifically to a bridal shop for a quote for alterations try a contacting an independant sewing and alteration shop first,or even ask at local independant dry cleaners for recomendations of who to use...it sometimes works out a lot cheaper that way rather than going to the bridal shops.
There are a growing number of alteration shops springing up and it may even be worth trying somewhere like a shop that sells prom dresses rather than bridal too.
Sometimes as soon as the wedding word is mentioned the price becomes much more but if your dress is not overly bridal then it may be classed for alteration and eventual dry cleaning costs as prom!frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

You could get a matching shrug made or wrap with the leftover material - i'm only five foot as well!0

Local bridal alterations business says it'll cost around £100 to shorten the dress and around £40-£50 to make the bodice more fitted (which is the look I like). That comes in just under the original retail price of the dress so I'm happy with that - particularly because it's likely I'd have to spend money on alterations whichever dress I bought!
The dress actually already has a shrug - http://uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_1.51,mon_1.63/3531094608
Thanks all for your advice!

That is a beautiful dress. I'm lucky that theres the possibility my best friend (chief bridesmaid as well) would be able to do alterations for me for free or at least a very small cost.Back after a wee break, need to mind keep up!!0
