Hi there, can anyone recommend any good lipsticks for recreating the looks of the 40's and 50's, preferably that would suit an older blonde woman haha!!

Have subbed to this thread, as I'm after a similar lipstick as I love the looks from the 50's, and if I'm right in thinking, the lipsticks (the reds shades, which is what I'm after personally) are like an orangey red, which I find suit me better.0

General tips:
- A good lipliner is going to be the trick at that age to keep a good line edge and stop the colour bleeding.
- Go matte rather than glossy for a retro look.
- Apply, blot, apply, blot, dust a light bit of face powder for maximum staying powder. Alcohol will remove the most strong willed lipstick, so try and use a straw if drinking!
- Reds will fall into two catagories, orange toned and blue toned, swatch a few in the shop to work out what suits you and flatters your skin tone.
The 'go to' shades are probably MAC's Ruby Woo (as seen on the likes of Christina Aguilera and Rihanna) or MAC's Russian Red (see Gwen Stefani, Dita Von Teese, usually classed as the 'go to retro lip')
MAC's Lady Bug is also worth a mention.
I think the Kate Moss line for Rimmel has a new matte collection, theres probably a half decent red in there, Revlon do a 'classic' one in one of their older ranges, and I think its just called Revlon Red.0 -
Mac's Russian Red is my fave. I seem to have acquired 2. I wore it when I got married with the 'Betty Grable' look. Gorgeous deep retro red.Noli nothis permittere te terere
