I am visitng the Buxton area this coming weekend and, whilst there, am planning on doing some shopping. I don't know the area at all and wondered if anyone from that area could direct me to any retail parks or shopping centres with large-ish stores like Next, M&S etc.
Thanks for your help

it is not a big shopping centre at all.
it has a very small marks and tiny next.
the only other high chain stores it has are ,
wollies quite small
whsmiths, medium size,
small argos,
eathel austin not bad size
claires accesories small
thats about your lot there are plenty of car parks around the back of the shopping arcade, but it is quite pricy, i think,
i live in stockport, poss 12 miles away we do have the shops, you are looking for but are about 12 miles possible less away. hope that helpsAt last I have a signature.0 -
Thanks for your reply.
I don't mind travelling up to say 20-25 miles, do you think Stockport is the best option or is there some other towns within that radius that may be better.

Stockport, Manchester City Centre, the "Trafford Centre" or Sheffield are your best bets. Buxton is lovely but not worth visiting for the shops.0

If you havnt been before you may be in for a disappointment, there isnt much to do. If its shops you are looking for, you are in the wrong place, head towards manchester. I've been to the trafford centre, but i am not from round there so thats as much as i've seen.0 -
A Brief Tourist Guide to Buxton
Very pretty, but traffic is a pain at weekends, depending which road you're using to get there you could be in a traffic jam across the common for up to 1/2 an hour.
VERY expensive parking and not much of it (and a really pain in the **** system where you have to be key you car registration into the ticket machine, a real pain if you can't remember it and you're parked the other side of the car park).
Limited selection of shop (unless all you want is a tour of coffee shops and tea rooms) + most of the shops are closed on Sunday. Some nice restaurants and bar, but there are some dives aswell, it depends what type of place you're after
If it's shopping you want try Macclesfield, Leek or Stockport but your best bets would be The Trafford Centre (but quite a few of the clothes shops are very similar) or Manchester (Trains are usually hourly)
Hope this is of some help, if there's anything specific you want to know PM me and I'll try to help.0 -
I agree, my family live near Buxton and it's a bit limited, to say the least. Stockport is better if you want all of the big shops (I think there is/was a Next Clearance place too, although I'm not sure if it's still open), and Macclesfield is nice too. Chesterfield has big stores too and isn't bad if you're after the basics, although it's a bit ... 'scruffy'. If you want to travel out a bit further there's a big John Lewis' at Cheadle.
Manchester and Sheffield are ok but not so good if you're planning on getting there by train - Manchester is probably your best bet if that's the kind of thing you're after as I've heard that Sheffield city centre isn't quite so nice as it used to be. There's the Trafford Centre too (personally I didn't like it) or Meadowhall at Sheffield (known locally as Meadowhell lol).0 -
I visit Buxton frequently - I have friends there, but the shops are (surprisingly) decidedly downmarket. There are lots of charity shops, and all the basic shops like Boot, Woolies, etc (small versions) but really, it's not a very inspiring place to shop. The best bits are the market square (by Qwik Save,) and the independent butchers shops....although my friend tells me a couple of these have closed recently.
The bigger surrounding town, as mentioned, are your best bet.0 -
