They are popular, and its a beautiful suggestion. but I have a terrible pomposity i am afraid and I cannot eat game out of season,:o. I'll un bend on the glorious twelfth...:o
I will ignore all of my own personal taste preferences and medical dietary restrictions and nibble on a carrot stick and play with a lettuce leaf if its all I've served I can eat , but I like to serve ethical, and seasonal.:o. Game is very ethical IMO, but seasonal it is not.
Please don't be offended, I really do think its a beautiful suggestion, and perfect if it were not for my own ridiculousness.0 -

Oh, the contents change according to season, whim and fancy but always are well thought out to provide balance and contrast and options. I don't expect people will try everything, but expect there to be something to tempt most people without gratuitous excess.
My grandmother was a stickler for certain 'rules' about offerings of afternoon tea (rules on 'cut' cakes etc etc) and I am less rigid about those, but I do think they gave a basis for balance.0 -

That sandwich does sound amazing. I will definitely be making that at some point.0

With nice weather, guests who are not well known and kids I think a 'picky' dinner of salads, beautiful cold meats, breads, cheeses etc is ideal and looks very appealing and a generous meal.0

the 70's invention of a ploughman's? nice HM crusty bread, apples, pickles, local cheese, salad garnish....lovely,
My top tip is a lot of Americans taste buds are dulled by the heavy use of salt, sugar and fats in food, which is why they think English food is tasteless, a ploughman's dispenses with that problem and imho Americans all love bread which is not the rubbish they are used to buying which i called cake bread when I lived there,as it is really sweet and spongy...
Also Americans are used to much larger portions than we eat in the UK, so with bread and cheese they can satisfy their hunger without breaking the bank.
I am not trying to make out American are all fat it is just the state of play over there, I actually lost weight in the US as I found the portions sizes off putting and sugar and salt overpowering in food, but it took me over a year to re-educate my taste buds to UK food.0 -

Hi, no not offended I personally only make game terrine in season as I get some of the meat for free
In summer I make pork and chicken/turkey as that is very popular here. I am making one for the weekend tomorrow as it is very popular with my family. I dont eat meat so am also making a caramelised onion quiche.
Luckily my guests come here most weeks so dont have to make a massive effort as such0
