Getting a job that way you'll avoid all those tricky interview questions such as mentioned above and both you and your employer will have a chance to try each other out before making/accepting a job offer.
I think you're probably right.
Even though I really hate recruitment agencies, most of my long term jobs have initally been through them, and eventually the company asks me to join them on a permanent basis.
I applied for this latest job on the off chance. When I was reading the job description, I thought it was a little out of my depth, but I applied anyway, and took my time answering the questions on their online application form.
They were the sort of questions I'd dread in an interview, but i'm OK if I have unlimited time to pick my answers and give them in writing, as opposed to speaking.
I don't think i'll attend the interview. I feel really really nervous just thinking about it.
I think I need to look into medication before anything maybe.
I'm unsure of what route to take though.
Do I need beta blockers to take as a and when needed (like before tests/interviews?)
What helps confidence? Depression medication??
I don't really know.0 -
Why not tackle the anxiety rather than giving in to it?
Agree with this, there are a number of interventions for anxiety that have a credible evidence base. Meds, CBT, Talking Therapies there is an intervention or combination that will work for you
I have hired, managed and worked with a large number of coders and developers, a number of them have been on the aspergers spectrum with varying degrees of social anxiety and symptoms of personality disorder, some couldnt be in front of clients or were only happy coding in a broom cupboard with little interaction and thats fine to an extent, and the coders I worked with there was a big pay off for their foibles in that they were amazing and talented coders who produced awesome, efficient code ahead of time.
However communication skills are vital to a huge number of roles, where I currently work the project staff including coders and developers all attend and input into conference calls, meetings and sprints so if the OP can work on the anxiety issues it can only help their career.
I saw one of our quietest coders present his opensource code at a hackathon event last month, I was so impressed he is normally v quiet, but as he told me "I would be nervous but the audience is all from the same tribe...... geek" and as soon as he received enthusiastic feedback about his coding from his peers he was0 -
Go to the interview as practice. Have a good think about what has been said on here, and try. You seem to be letting your anxiety control your life entirely, and this is a step in taking things back.
Don't go to get the job. Go, just to do the interview.
I'm not sure why you think beta blockers will help. If you speak to your GP they may prescribe a type of anti-anxiety/depressant medication for you, which might help, but let them decide, rather than telling them what you want! Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Yes, that sort of thing.
People seem to have been using beta blockers for years to help with nerves.0
